A delayed opening of the Panama Canal expansion past the April 2016 deadline is looking more and more likely as 2015 comes to a close and work continues to repair a crack that formed in one of the new lock complexes.
Panama Canal Authority (ACP) Administrator Jorge Quijano gave an update on the expansion project at an industry event in Panama City on Friday, telling attendees that the project now stands at 96% complete and assuring that delivery is still expected in the second quarter of 2016, even though a final date remains to be determined.

That looks pretty serious.
If you have never ever seen the canal you have missed the adventure of a lifetime. The engineering and design genius is without peer.
Why is a construction problem that yields this concrete core sample being called a design flaw? Because if it is properly diagnosed as a bad concrete pour and properly resolved by tearing out the faulty concrete and redoing the work, that would cause major new delays and probably bankrupt construction companies in Spain, Italy and Panama and possibly some of their suppliers, insurers and lenders as well. Calling it a design flaw allows for a quicker, cheaper and shorter-lasting fix and for those responsible for the bad concrete to litigate with designers in an attempt to pass off some of the costs of their mistake to others.
Two new sets of cracks in the new PanCanal locks

Trump would have built it right!
Looks like the next pour of concrete was placed on a pour that had already setup. That’s a “No-No”.
Agreed.
Core samples should lack of vibration used during pouring.
I sense no good vibrations.
The stuff that shows up 10 years from now may be worse.
Jackson speculates that the collapse of the heavily government-subsidised Spanish construction company Sacyr â one of GUPCâs members along with Italyâs Salini-Impregilo, Belgiumâs Jan de Nul, and Panamaâs Constructora Urbana â could bring down Spainâs fragile economy.

Better to pay too much the first time, than to buy it twice.
Series? Just slap a little grout on it and hope no big quakes hit nearby.. Brittle is not good when it comes to concrete. The silver lining.. If we do another Panama canal cruise , we will use the new gates.. Riding the old ones up and down was pretty cool.
Flex Seal will fix it....i saw it on a commercial.
I used to work for a contracting company with two divisions, an electrical and general construction division I worked for. We had a saying "******** Electrical, never enough time to do it right the first time, always enough time to do it twice!"
—agree—and while I was there , saw a bulk carrier go through that just fit, also—
CrapGoo⢠needed here
To paraphrase Sarah Palin - electrical ain't rocket surgery.
