The Republican Establishment Would Rather Lose the Presidential Election Than Control of the Party
nymag.com ^ | 12/22/15 | Ed Kilgore

Posted on 12/22/2015 3:16:42 PM PST by cotton1706

It's hard for a political party to self-diagnose its problems when its thinkers are at odds about the nature and extent of the current symptoms. That’s the condition of the Republican Party, which began this presidential cycle highly confident about consolidating power gained at the congressional and state levels during the last two midterms with the capture of that last Democratic redoubt, the White House.

Glad to see it's becoming obvious to these people, what we've all known for years!

The GOPe’s have already lost control.

Trump is the manifestation of its lost control.

Go Trump.

They’d be happy to have Billary in charge again.

They’ll just play the (dis)loyal opposition role. Tell the GOPe supporters they tried what they could and keep the payola machine rolling. Drive us off the cliff.

Trump and Cruz are their nightmare, but they can just not fund Cruz after he’s nominated. He’s their last chance at control. Remember how both McCain and Romney suspended their campaigns a few weeks out from election?

Trump has exposed the Uniparty. The level of heat he takes from MSM, including Fox, and politicians on all side is exposing we are in a sham republic.

But the way Kilgore defines "Republican Establishment" is different from how conservatives define it.

Some Republicans think that is still the party's trajectory, and dismiss the craziness of the early GOP presidential contest as an illusion or a temporary moment of turbulence. A greater number cover their ears and tell themselves and others that nothing that happens before late primary voters run to the rescue of Establishment candidates is real. All this Trump lunacy, all this "outsider revolt" business, is just noise created by mischievous or hostile media elements, they believe. The enduring Reagan ideology of well-armed internationalism, free-market economics, and the gradual, stealthy erosion of the New Deal and Great Society abominations, advanced by skillful if conventional politicians, will reassert its control over the GOP when the deal really goes down.

He's not drawing a distinction between Reagan (anti-establishment) on the one hand and the Bushes (establishment) on the other.

It's not so easy to grasp just what his point is, but the fact that so much of it is about David Frum's recommendations may give you an idea where he's coming from.

Well, they'll end up with a party of about five idiots, then.

Have it your way, elites, I could care less.

The only reason I vote Republican is because I refuse to vote Democratic and there is no Constitutional Conservative candidate...or at least Cruz hasn't announced as such, yet.

Stupid GOPe...they learned nothing from the W years. They had it all and squandered it acting like Democrats...more spending, more government, more neocon BS, etc.

Screw them and the Bush wing of the party.

<>sham republic<>

A recent youtube of Sen Ben Sasse, in which he explained how congress has purposely given away its Article I powers, put me over the top.

After a lifetime of NEVER missing a national election, I'll probably abstain from the FL congressional election next November. While I still intend to vote for Cruz in the primary and either Cruz or Trump in the general . . . that could change too.

I increasingly view voting as condoning tyranny.

I don’t want to bust your hopes I really like a lot of what trump wants to do but he will lose the general election in a landslide.

We may even lose control of most of the States because opposition to him is too high among the Democratic, independence, and even the rinos.

Trump right now is looking to lead the gob to its biggest defeat in history. I’m sorry I hate that fact as much as you but this is not the American of a decade ago. Much of our population isn’t even our population and much of the rest is the product of generations of leftist indoctrinated schools.

This people have been trained by teachers to killed themselfs before supporting a man like trump. Just the same as they have been trained to think like racist hypersensitive to race issues.

Let’s face it the only reason Carson even ties with Clinton is because its black.

We can’t win this election with trump no matter how much money he brings to the table. The population is already polorized against him.
