TED CRUZ MAKES HUGE LEAP, now just FOUR points away from Trump in new poll!!!
Right Scoop ^ | 12/22/15 | Staff

Ted Cruz is going to wake up to an early Christmas gift from the polling elves at Quinnipiac University, as their new results show him making a YUGE leap in popularity to gain on the front-runner Trump. For his part, he increased by one point as well.

Donald Trump’s perch atop the 2016 presidential polls is looking a little shakier this morning.

In the latest Quinnipiac University national survey released Tuesday, Trump leads Texas Sen. Ted Cruz by just four percentage points.

Trump’s share remained essentially unchanged from the university’s last poll, ticking up one point to 28 percent. Cruz, meanwhile, shot up eight percentage points to 24 percent.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio finished third with 12 percent, a five-point drop since late November, while retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson continued his downward spiral with 10 percent, a six-point hit in the same period. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie registered 6 percent, his highest level of support in a telephone poll since late May. Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush took 4 percent, while all other candidates earned 2 percent or less and 8 percent remained undecided. Of those who named a candidate, 58 percent of Republican voters said they might change their mind before voting in their state’s primary.

Cruz commanded pluralities of support over Trump among those describing themselves as members of the tea party (38 percent to 27 percent) and white, born-again Evangelical Christians (33 percent to 22 percent). Cruz also led Trump among very conservative supporters (38 percent to 27 percent), while Trump led at least nominally in every other demographic polled.

But it’s close. Among men, for example, Cruz trails Trump 30 percent to 29 percent, while among those with a college degree, he trails 24 percent to 21 percent.

In other results, it looks like Cruz does best in a head-to-head competition with Hillary, but he finishes even:

“Oh sure, his record on positions is first rate, but his record of accomplishments is quite another matter.”

Uhh, well, what was he supposed to “accomplish” with the entire GOPe in the Senate allied against him and determined to NOT allow any conservative initiatives to succeed? So, what would you have wanted him to do? Just sit back and shut up like all the other GOP senators?

You wrote:

“Internals: 64% Trump supporters say mind is made up, 63% of Cruz supporters say they can change their minds.”

I was wondering where those stats came from. Because I certainly don’t believe that Cruz supporters are so noncommittal.

Nope. They are going to vote for Cruz but not Trump. That’s why Trump is getting clobbered by Hilary even while Cruz is even with Hilary.

The poll is called, "The Quinnipiac Trumpbash Poll" They have Sanders beating him head to head by 13... Were many of the later polls taken by a bunch of pothead college kids? The Sanders match-up seems to indicate that. They always have Trump low-mid 20s no matter what else is going on

12/20: Trump 28 Cruz 24 Rubio 12 Carson 10
11/30: Trump 27 Carson 17 Cruz 16 Rubio 16
11/2: Trump 24 Carson 23 Rubio 14 Cruz 13
9/21: Trump 25 Carson 17 Fiorina 12 Bush 10 Rubio 9 Cruz 7
8/25: Trump 28 Carson 12 Bush 7 Rubio 7 Cruz 7
7/28: Trump 20 Walker 13 Bush 10 Carson 6 Rubio 6

Quinnipiac is against Trump, and their bias makes their polls flaky

Cruz is a social and constitutional conservative. Trump is neither.

If Trump is not the nominee, then millions of people like me will stay home and not vote.
********************************************************************************
Then you would be a fool, my FRiend, lacking all discernment. And there would NOT be millions like you if Cruz were the nominee instead of Trump IMHO.

Well, as you know, I don’t credit any of the current polling. I actually think the “embarrassment” question imputes a bias with Q.

For me, the positives are that (1) Rubio and Gop-e attacks on immigration failed; Cruz was prohibitively perceived as the debate winner (again vis a vis Rubio); and that the result will carry the news for a while. Trump is nationally known- Cruz is still getting there. This poll will help his national credibility.

As for the solid question, there’s no doubt that Trump has a solid base of 15-18%.

Hey why don’t you go to Quinnipiac’s site and read the details yourself instead of asking me? It’s all there mate.

Um, no. It isn't.

My question is not addressed.

Were you thinking I wouldn't check any purported "answers?"

I seem to recall Trumpbots thrashing the DMR poll which had Cruz beating Trump by 9 points using the same talking points. Then WHAM! The CBS poll came out and Cruz was even higher at 40% and beating Trump by 9 points. Lol!

Trump crazies: Every poll that has Trump getting beat by anyone else is either biased, fraudulent, they hate Trump or The poll plain sucks.

Meanwhile, polls from.exactly the same outfit which has Trump leading are oh very good polls. Chuckle!
You guys are going to need major therapy when Cruz clobbered Trump.

Will Cruz round up these refugees and send them back? Immigration is the only issue I care about - secure the border and deport all illegals including their kids and families. Until that happens, nothing else matters.
____________

I don’t think so. Fact is, Cruz had little success building a coalition to get anything done. The reason Cruz’s cadidacy is showing strength right now that Cruz is hiding behind Trump, letting Trump take all the heat. Most would call that a free ride. He won’t get one in the general and that is when his candidacy will crumble. If the situation was reversed and Cruz was the one leading the charge on Immigration and the Muslim ban, Ted would be in real trouble, in my opinion.

I have no problem with Cruz, he is just being used as an object to slam Trump. Cruz is my 2nd choice, and I hope Trump has him as VP or A G

Excuse me. My mistake.

I assumed most any FReeper would be smart enough to distinguish between personal and public policy accomplishments, given the context, without having such an obvious delineation specifically mentioned.

Sadly, I was wrong.

Velkum to Donald “Amnesty” Trump:

“Republicans didn’t have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians,” the billionaire developer says.

“The Democrats didn’t have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren’t mean-spirited about it,” Trump says. “They didn’t know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind.”…

“He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal,” Trump says. “It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote,” Trump notes. “He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country.”

Self-deportation is mean-spirited and maniacal because it offends people who are inspired by the idea of migration to America? That does sound like something an amnesty fan would say. What about Trump’s alleged support of the DREAM Act? There’s evidence of that too, although it comes from DREAMers themselves. Here’s their account of a meeting with Trump in 2013:

But he also kept asking, “Can’t you just become a citizen if you want to?” No, we can’t, the activists said, there’s no process for that. Trump was reflective, the activists said…

Trump said he knew the work of undocumented people is what makes his golf courses and hotels great.

“At the end of the day, what we’re looking at is a value proposition for America,” Tijerino said to Trump at the end of the meeting, referring to immigration legislation.

“You’ve convinced me,” Trump said to the delight of the activists in the room.

“We all smiled at each other and said, ‘Wow, we did it, we got this guy to change his mind,’” Pacheco said.

First, while I think the polls are pretty accurate for primaries, I take anything in the general election with a grain of salt. Once there is a candidate established, generally the base solidifies.
Second, if you’re gonna play that game, in poll after poll CARSON does better against Hillary than anyone . . . so we should nominate him, right? Sorry. Try again.

No...I never said we should nominate anybody that we thought could win.

But that is the clarion call from Trump supporters...
Only he can beat the media
Only he can beat Hillary
Only he can pull Dems
Only he can get blue collar workers
he can get 25% African American voters

And in poll after poll that is not supported.

So my opinion is just as good as Trump supporters if you don’t have any numbers to back it up...

Trump can’t win because his negatives and favorables are so bad.
See how that works.

But we definitely should refrain from bickering amonst ourselves.

Tell it to the Cruz supporters! They are trying to disqualify Trump, while most conservative Trump supporters just don't think Cruz, or the ground, is ready for him yet!

They are making enemies out of friends due to impatience.
