A man who attempted to rob another man early Saturday morning was shot and killed by the victim, who was an off-duty Baltimore City police officer.
Anne Arundel County police said the incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Homewood Road in Linthicum Heights, Maryland. The off-duty police officer was approached by the man, Edel Cato Moreland, 32, who produced what appeared to be a igun and said he was going to rob the officer.
Investigators said the officer, an 18-year veteran assigned to the special operations section of the Baltimore City Police Department, pulled out his service revolver and fired at the suspect. Moreland fled a short distance before collapsing in the street. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel on the scene.
Investigators found the suspect's gun at the scene and determined it to be a realistic-looking, all black toy gun that resembled a revolver. The identity of the officer was not released. Moreland's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

I suspect once this story is circulated amongst the peoples of Baltimore, that unnamed POlice officer is going to be in deep doodoo.
After all, Edel Cato Moreland only had a toy gun.
Killing a poor unarmed black (probably) man who in reality was only trying to get money for Christmas presents for his kids and baby mama(s) is not acceptable in 2015 Baltimore. I suspect that Baltimore state attorney Marilyn Mosby is going to be all over this like ugly on an ape.

1:30AM in a neighborhood slightly higher than national average for crime. 3 burglaries, 2 thefts, and one assault in the last month in the general area. If the cop was troll fishing, he caught one. Good on him.
Needed a bigger/better round, and he should not have stopped firing. If the perp could run away, he could have just as easily returned fire if that had been a real firearm. LEO is lucky to be alive. I'd have kept firing center mass until he was on the ground. I usually carry a 9mm or 45 ACP - both loaded with Federal JHP.
