"I think we need to consider all options when trying to resolve our immigration problem and what to do with the millions of illegal immigrants already living here"; Mr. Cruz wrote in a five-page memo," offering Mr. Bush some flexibility on what has long been a thorny issue for Republicans. "But, right now, I don' think amnesty is the answer."
Immigration has changed since then, idiot.
Wow, you sure brought out the Cruzers in force. Flack, target, you get the drift.
You don’t even want to know the things Trump was saying in 1999.
I understand. trump is a brilliant salesman.
Bette Midler?
I believe, if I recall correctly, he wa s proposing a 14.25% wealth tax.
1999....as in before 9-11-01? Spare me please NYT!
Cruz was working on Bush’s immigration plan, of course it’ll reflect Bush’s “compassionate conservative” BS.
In 1999 Memo, Ted Cruz Took Milder Tone on Immigration
ACTUAL MEMO:
I think we need to consider all options when trying to resolve ... What to do with the millions of illegal immigrants already living here, .... But, right now, I dont think amnesty is the answer. (emphasis supplied)
In 1999 Trump had his nose up Bill Clinton’s @$$.
And 13 years later Donald Trump took a FAR milder tone on Immigration.
In June of 2012 Trump was on Fox News and praised Romney’s approach, saying that he was handling the immigration good, has shown compassion and wants a more permanent approach. But first he advocated permanent residency for Illegal immigrants
For people that have been here for years that have been hard-workers, have good jobs, they’re supporting their family and it’s very, very tough to just say By the way, 22 years, you have to leave. Get out.
I am one of the world’s very conservative people, but I have to tell you on a human basis, how do you throw somebody out that’s lived in this country for twenty years.
He also accused Republicans of being “mean spirited” in their approach to illegal immigration
Cruz was an advisor during Bush’s campaign. He was NEVER part of the Bush administration
1999 was 16 years ago!
I remember the Mittster wanted to SELF-DEPORT all illegals during the campaign. That caused a lot of brouhaha.
In 1999. Ted Cruz was 26. Probably just finishing law school
In 1992 I helped start a Spanish Telemundo TV station. Worked alongside some of those great illegals. Then some of them gasoline bombed my offices and could have killed me. Latter in 2005 had my storage raided by illegals I had befriended.
In short, attitudes evolve with better information.
In 1999 so did I.
