CBS NEWS December 18, 2015 School Cancels Santa Field Trip After Mom Objects
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Parents of San Jose school kids confronted a school board Thursday night after a decision to cancel a field trip to see Santa Claus followed a complaint by a Jewish mother who objected to the school-sponsored outing, CBS San Francisco station KPIX-TV reports.
The visit to Santa, along with a "Dear Santa" assignment, was a decade-long tradition at Sartorette Elementary School, part of San Jose's Cambrian School District.
Last week, the Sartorette staff informed parents the school would suspend the outing to see Santa at a local coffee shop after a Jewish mother, who identified herself only as Talia, complained to the school board that the district was celebrating one religion over others.
"We need to teach about all the holidays," Talia told KPIX-TV. "We live in a global society."
Talia said that as a result of her complaint and the decision by the school board other parents began to bully her.
"I had some parents that called me a communist, that said that I didn't want any holidays in the school," she said.
Some parents are blaming Talia for ruining Christmas.

Time we Christians tell Jews, Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists, that this IS a Christian nation and if you don’t like it there is North Korea.
I bet you all the Asian parents in this school hate her. San Jose is 65% Asian and they all love Christmas.
I disagree with this mom, but had the school taken these kids to a septic....er....mosque, what would we have said?
A few Jews giving the rest of us a bad name - as always. And trust me, I can assure you they aren’t religious Jews... They’re “culturally Jewish atheists...”
Let me guess, this mother probably though would not object to observing Muslim holidays?
Tyranny of the one!
This is a Christian country, not a Jewish or Muslim one. If she doesn’t want her kid to participate in something as harmless as seeing Santa, she can just keep him home for the day.
What happened to letting the minority either stay home, go to study hall, or havng their own parties?
Don’t let your kid go. End of problem. Stupid of the school to drop the trip.
Why can’t they just tell her: “No problem. Please pick up your child at 9:00AM while the rest of us make the trip.”
As a Jew, I am embarrassed by this kind of Jew, who is, of course, a liberal above and beyond any Jewish considerations. Some will be surprised to know that Orthodox Judaism specifically teaches the opposite of what she did: we are supposed to be respectful and peaceful towards people of other faiths. Of course, there were, in the past biblical exceptions when those people persecuted us (eg: Chanuka, Purim stories).
Santa Field Trip? to the North Pole? Better take along a warm sweater.......................
There are a lot of places in California that this woman finds offensive. Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, Santa Ysabel, Santa Monica. Maybe she should pack her crap and get out.
I was thinking the same thing.
These debates over various religions now are nothing more then ‘the symptom’ of a nation that has denied it's foundation in Biblical Christianity and it's values.....and that void will always quickly be filled with “something else”.
These arguements have nothing to do with what's “fair”....rather 'evidences' eliminating Christianity from the fabric of America.
Some people are not happy until everyone else is miserable. She could have simply kept her child home that day but no, she had to ruin it for everyone else.
This is so unusual that she has to be a far Left secular Jew.
She probably thinks she is giving some cover to Muslims in a twisted way.
The perennial whininess problem, and probably she’s generally nonreligious.
A more astute Jewish mother would have Santa Claus being asked for things like a relief from the assault of jihadism on Israel. The Christian religion doesn’t require a Santa Claus and it’s not prescribed in the bible. It’s a later adoption, mostly as a morality story, and usually Jewish people are copacetic with Christian morality.
We have a strong Christian heritage.
On July 9, 1776, upon receiving a copy of the Declaration of Independence from the Continental Congress, General George Washington issued the orders from his headquarters in New York authorizing the Continental Army to appoint and pay chaplains in every regiment.
âThe Hon. Continental Congress having been pleased to allow a Chaplain to each Regiment, with the pay of Thirty-three Dollars and one third pr month â The Colonels or commanding officers of each regiment are directed to procure Chaplains accordingly; persons of good Characters and exemplary lives â
To see that all inferior officers and soldiers pay them a suitable respect and attend carefully upon religious exercises. The blessing and protection of Heaven are at all times necessary but especially so in times of public distress and danger â The General hopes and trusts, that every officer and man, will endeavour so to live, and act, as becomes a Christian Soldier, defending the dearest Rights and Liberties of his country. The Hon. Continental Congress, impelled by the dictates of duty, policy and necessity, having been pleased to dissolve the Connection which subsisted between this Country, and Great Britain, and to declare the United Colonies of North America, free and independent States: The several brigades are to be drawn up this evening on their respective Parades at six OâClock, when the Declaration of Congress, shewing the grounds and reasons of this measure, is to be read with an audible voice. The General hopes this important event will serve as a fresh incentive to every officer, and soldier, to act with Fidelity and Courage, as knowing that now the peace and safety of his Country depends (under God) solely on the success of our arms.â
