If you're a white-tailed deer in Milwaukee County, odds are you live in or near the county's park system.
The 15,000 acres of parks and parkways provide more than 90% of the deer habitat in the county, according to an assessment by the Department of Natural Resources.
That's a lot of land, but not enough for a deer to hide in.
Especially if you're a big-racked buck like "Bow Tie."
Bow Tie was a very well-known white-tailed deer that was frequently seen in Milwaukee County.
Randy Crawford of Wauwatosa is a wildlife photographer and hunter who enjoys viewing and capturing images of the animals that frequent the county parks.
"It's a kick to hike through the parkways and see wildlife," Crawford said. "Close to the city, but you get the feeling of being away."
Like many local residents, Crawford sees many of the deer on a regular basis.
He had seen Bow Tie for the last eight years. He nicknamed the animal for its distinctive white throat patch.
The buck became locally famous for more than its coloration â it developed an impressive set of antlers.

Deer shot illegally in Milwaukee County Park.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Part of me is sad and part of me is glad I won’t hit him with my car. Almost every close call with deer has been near a park in an urban area.

I tried to read the entire article, but I couldn’t get rid of the Kroger ad.
Apparently, one hunter engaged the likely culprit in a conversation prior to the MURDER of Bow Tie.
I hope the shooter is caught and severely punished to the full extent of the law.
Ah yes, the King's land!
“That’s a lot of land, but not enough for a deer to hide in.”
15,000 acres, and a deer cannot hide in it?!!!
Deer successfully hide in tiny patches of land. The author lost me with that stupid statement.
It sounds like the hunter was confused about the hunting regulations.
I am not going to lose a lot of sleep of a deer. The deer herd is thriving in Wisconsin.
“of a deer”
should be
“over a deer”
It is too bad that this animal was wasted. But at 8 years old, it is was a very old Wisconsin buck.
Deer are infesting many US counties and need to be culled for venison eating. Deer are lacking predators we have killed off. But what kind of retard would kill this old buck that everyone knows about?
****** Your county may have a normal deer population so regulate your hunters as far as what they can take. But many states and counties east of the Mississippi are overrun by them
Sounds like this deer was ‘known’ because the photographer (who is also identified as a hunter) had used him in photos that were widely seen.
The photographer likely found that distinctive patch to be (A)recognizable, he’d seen the deer before and (B)artistically pleasing (contributed a little something to his images and set them apart from others’).
A bad kill is a bad kill but the photographer himself might have shot a similarly aged/shaped deer himself if the location were different. Is that discriminatory? That he’d ‘befriended’ one and all others were fair game?
The photographer says this action will smear hunters...
But it would never have been known except for the photographer promoting it...
Well-known Buck........
Who knew him? What sort of nuts and stuff did Bow Tie like. Was he into Does? Was he a hiker or a squatter?
And now coming to your local Sprouts Farmers market, venison sausage - just for the holidays.
The hunter did what a car would have done tomorrow.
“But at 8 years old, it is was a very old Wisconsin buck.”
Agree. It’s not like Bambi’s mother was shot.
“Bow Tie was a very well-known white-tailed deer that was frequently seen in Milwaukee County.”
That’s a pretty stupid deer to have in the breeding stock.
No need having it around to stagnate the bloodline. Besides,
other than for food what good are they anyway.
Well, at least he didn’t say it developed an impressive set of horns....
“#Whitetaileddeerlivesmatter”
That’s clearly racist
