Some news over the weekend suggests that there has been some meaningful movement in the Republican presidential race. Specifically, recent polls show that Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has moved ahead of Donald Trump in Iowa and is gaining on him elsewhere. Maybe this is the start of a significant shift in the race, although it is still a little early and most voters are still undecided about who to vote for. But Cruz does have a major advantage over Trump, one that is perhaps beginning to make a difference. The advantage is this: Cruz is a Republican. And Republican voters are ultimately going to nominate a legitimate, conservative Republican.
Regardless of what you think of Cruz â and plenty of good Republicans in Washington, particularly his colleagues in the Senate, donât like him â his Republican credentials and commitment to the conservative cause cannot be questioned. Cruzâs financial contributors are Republicans, his key personnel and organizers are Republicans and his supporters are mostly people who tend to reliably vote in GOP primaries. Not to mention, Cruz won a tough primary and was overwhelmingly elected in Texas, an anchor Republican state....

“That way he can jump into the gravy train without depending on someone else.”
News flash: When you have %9 billion you are already on the Gravy Train and you are driving. LOL!
I am responding to some posters who think that some billionaires need puppets while Trump has only altruistic interests. They accuse Cruz of being someone’s puppet. I say BS. Trump being a billionaire does not mean he is satisfied with his lot.
Of course Trump is satisfied with his lot. He’s no different than a lot of us who looked around and said I could run things better. Its just that he has the means to actually run and win.
Aaawww... how sweet. What a wonderful, pure fella. Trump is just looking out for his country while the other billionaires are evil puppet masters. Yea, that’s the ticket.
Zzzzzzzzz.
The used car salesman versus The Donald. Wake me when it’s over.
I don’t think all billionaires are evil puppet masters. That’s your illusion. :-)
I was referring to what your fellow Trump fans have been proclaiming loudly and proudly.
But how then would you explain the polls showing Trump is Hillary’s best matchup? Those seem pretty consistent.
I’m not saying Trump can’t beat Hillary, but other than maybe one or two outliers, 97% of the other head to head v. Hillary polls show Trump performing far worse that Cruz or Rubio (or Carson even).
I don’t try to explain the polls, just going with my gut. I know a lot of Obama voters and non-voters who say they will vote for Trump. He would crush Hillary.
Yes Cruz is poised and ready to zoom straight up to the top from his very advantageous 14 points. Trump’s 41? Nothing!
PLEEZE!
Remember how Rudy Giuliani was leading in 2008?
And just take stock of that great GOP led Senate. Taking back the Senate wasn’t because of Cruz, he supported no candidates in that election.
There was a reason for that.
“...his appeal to the Tea Party and Evangelical wing will turn off many during the general. “
OMG!!!! LOL!!!
Maybe we DO need Romney to get back in!!
Things went south for Newt after the second debate when he tried to use the “smack down the moderator” again. The first time the timing and subject matter was perfect and he knocked it out of the park. Second time he tried it, he fell flat.
Followed by a few other stumbles like failing to get on the ballot in a few states.
Missed that Laz post. Thanks for the link.
Actually no. Winner!
You mean when the DEMOCRATS shut down the government, to stop Cruz from defunding Obamacare?
Don’t buy the media hype.

Cruz is NO friend of the RINOs. Quite the opposite. Had I written the article, I would have said Cruz is a true Conservative. Obviously “Republican” no longer carries that connotation.
Ann Seltzer, the pollster is the best in the business. Her poll for the Des Moines Register detected the movement of evangelicals from Carson to Cruz. Ted has also been picking off libertarian leaning repubs from Paul. Huckabee and Santorums voters have been gravitating towards Cruz. Some of the best door knockers I know have been hitting it hard in Iowa as well. #GrassrootsMatter especially in Iowa.
