From last night's speech to the New England Police Benevolent Association, which voted to endorse him. Rarely can you tell whether a new Trump policy idea was gamed out beforehand or just something he came up with on the fly while in front of a mic, and this is no exception. His advisor, Dan Scavino, tweeted it out after Trump said it, though, so if it wasn't official campaign policy before, I guess it is now.
Is it worth critiquing this? Krauthammer’s ready to give up on arguing against Trump policies, partly because they're all obviously political panders rather than serious proposals and partly because pointing out that the policy is dumb and/or illegal only seems to make Trump fans want to spite the critic by embracing the idea more tightly. Besides, anyone who's been following the last few years of Obama's executive overreach already sees the problems here. For starters, cop-killer prosecutions usually fall under state, not federal, jurisdiction. Nineteen states have abolished the death penalty entirely, including Trump's home state of New York. The idea that the president can dictate to a state how it should punish its criminals is a kick in the nuts to federalism so sharp that even Obama wouldn't try it

He has taken it exactly as far as he can - make an empty promise he cannot fill. The federal government doesn't mandate state penalties. Presidents don't make law, regardless of what Obama may think.
There are no federal guidelines for sentences for state crimes. Some states have 3-strikes laws, some don't.
I am in awe of the brilliant minds that propound their understanding of all things on FR-—(most of them, of course, are Trump haters who miss no opportunity to take issue with a Trump statement)-—
That being said, any policy to put more power in the hands of the Feds is a bad policy.
BTW, Cruz is wrong on H-1b which is something that has affected me negatively. No candidate is perfect in anyone's eyes. Trump has major flaws, but also YUUUUUUGE strengths that more than cancel out his flaws.

Legally, their lives are worth more than ours. They are out there saving lives. So when you kill one, you increase the chances other people will die because he's off the job.
The Disney H-1B thing was hardly “big news.” Cruz has specifically talked about within the last month the increasing number of stories of companies abusing the H-1Bs to replace workers. So your trollish concern is unnecessary. He has long since been all over the issue already.
Cruz became aware of the H-1B abuses and just came out with a new bill yesterday to reform the program:
I strongly disagree. A president who stands up for law enforcement goes a long way towards getting respect for a police.
Obama has no respect for law enforcement and he is getting them killed.
That is what I mean. There is a lot a president can do.
So then how about Cruz for POTUS, and Trump and Veep and Rabble-Rouser-In-Chief. That way the top guy is the one that knows what he's doing.
So what about cop who gets shot making a warrantless entry?

Trump can push for it... and he will. Once liberals on pushed to the dust bin of history we can start making this country sane again.
