The national Republican establishment is preparing for potentially not having a clear winner after the party's 2016 presidential primaries, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
And if front-runner Donald Trump is still ahead at the end, several unnamed "longtime power brokers" reportedly urged the Republican Party to prepare for a floor fight to nominate a more acceptable alternative.
So-called brokered conventions are extremely rare as a consensus candidate typically emerges from each party's primaries with a majority of the delegates.

> If you think any Perot voters were about to vote for the phony GHWB, you’re crazy. Those 19 million votes , most of them, would have gone to Reagan - but never to a RINO like Bush.
You nailed it!
We were in Durham NC today, definitely a bluest of the blue city, and saw four cars with Carson stickers on them. The occupants were all black. The only other political sticker we saw was Obama on the back window of a car driven by a white woman.
This is the kind of crap that would produce the death knell to the Republican Party!
I wont vote for any GOP running for president unless they are a Trump clone from now on. Just shows again that the Gop offers very little nation wide and only care about disenfranchising Americans to appease tb
heir own handlers. The corruption is exposed more and more. The enemy is within the gate people.
Because he will overturn their socialism.
Right now Sanders has more support among the Democrats than Cruz has with the Republicans...That’s not a good sign...
CONGRATULATIONS my friend!
That is the question of the year.
while not liking the choice of trump. if he wins the primary I will vote for him because I swore I never would vote for a democrat.
If the political insiders try to pull what I think they are going to try and pull a brokered convention. The republican party is over. A good 20 percent of the grass root supporters will walkaway from the party permanently. this wont be just presidential politics this will happen in state and local politics.
The problem that the political insiders are facing is some one probably carl rove thought that if he crowded the field with non candidates (politicians that don’t have a chance and are running) it would prevent any one of Jeb bushes rivals from having the political air to threaten Jeb Bush in his presidential run. What happen instead was that the political outsiders did not have to face a opponent with a 20 percent base that was rock solid. JEB Bush then thought that because he had the money he would get the group that broke for CARSON,CRUZE AND TRUMP. Jeb and his advisers were dead wrong.
Theses advisers are now making an even bigger mistake in trying to get a Brokered convention when trump only gets about 35-40 percent of the vote. Theses same insiders are going to try and get Cruse and Carson’s delegates to combine there delegates to elect Jeb if he has at least 20 percent of the votes. (I don’t think Jeb can get 20% of the vote)so some one else not on the republican ballot will be chosen because none of the establishment want Cruze or Carson as a candidate.) and they definitely don’t Want Trump.
Sorry, Cruz has always been out.
Can no one rid us of this outdated and unfair primary system?
They’re like mean girls in high school. He’s not in their club.
(I heard Steve Doocy on Fox & Friends this morning refer to Republican-e but he quickly added establishment.
I tape Fox&Friends every morning... the hosts are true conservatives and Trump makes a visit every morning.
Brokered convention: Not Likely
Ohhhhhh, never thought of it that waay.
Nope but I’d be interested.
If they force Trump to run 3rd party they win.
Trump 3rd party run = slim Hillary victory.
At this point the best chance RINOs have to keep their jobs is a Hillary victory, so they will from this point out be acting as traitors and saboteurs.
“If Donald Trump is a faux conservative, as some claim, why is the Political Establishment so determined to destroy his candidacy?”
Because he’s an outsider who doesn’t need to kowtow to them because he already has both money and fame.
But that doesn’t mean that he’s a conservative. All evidence points to Trump being a liberal aon most issues and, at best, a very recent convert to a conservative on illegal immigration. Heck, four years ago he publicly was criticizing *Mitt Romney* for being *too tough* on illegal aliens. Was he lying then or is he lying now?
“However much as that is deserved, if it leaves Hillary in the White House this country is in serious trouble. “
The GOPe is counting on this, but if they $hitcan Trump and Cruz, while the country may be in serious trouble, the GOP is gone and maybe we can have a fresh start with a new party. Another Boosh or Rubio et.al. puts our country in trouble too if they win.
Not really.
Or so you claim.
