Ted Cruz: ‘I do not agree’ with Trump’s Muslim moratorium
WashTimes ^ | 12/8/15 | Seth McLaughlin -

GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.

"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. “I do not think it is the right solution.”

Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.

Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

I don’t know of a “University of Japan”, but in the foreign language schools of Japan, be it in Osaka ( OSAKA GAIDAI ) or Tokyo ( TOKYO GAIDAI ), ARABIC and PERSIAN are both taught if students want to major in these languages.

I know, I was a student for 9 months in Osaka Gaidai.

Sometimes the wisest answer is “This needs to be looked into.”

There are folks going off half cocked already saying we can’t do, can’t do, what Trump proposes. It’s worth looking into what an attempt to do it looks like, and not sing the defeat blues in advance.

Is Donald Trump Right About Closing the Border to Muslims?

Excerpt:
Donald Trump is at it again. This time, the Republican presidential frontrunner suggests that the United States should close the border to all Muslims—including Muslim-Americans traveling abroad. Anyone who cares an iota about religious liberty should denounce this reckless, demagogic rhetoric....

The United States government should fight, and fight hard, against radical Islamic jihadism. The government should close the borders to anyone suspected of even a passing involvement with any radical cell or terrorist network. But the government should not penalize law-abiding people, especially those who are American citizens, for holding their religious convictions.

Muslims are an unpopular group these days. And I would argue that non-violent Muslim leaders have a responsibility to call out terror and violence and jihad. At the same time, those of us who are Christians ought to stand up for religious liberty not just when our rights are violated but on behalf of others too.

Make no mistake. A government that can shut down mosques simply because they are mosques can shut down Bible studies because they are Bible studies. A government that can close the borders to all Muslims simply on the basis of their religious belief can do the same thing for evangelical Christians. A government that issues ID badges for Muslims simply because they are Muslims can, in the fullness of time, demand the same for Christians because we are Christians.

Trump's rhetoric hands obama an embodiment of the straw man that he tries to use against us. We need to be the voice of reason and solutions, not the charicature that obama likes to paint. Trump is not doing us any favors.

No, you are hung up on his birth name. It really is a weird affectation. Not sure why your brain is driving you to call Ted Cruz something other than “Ted Cruz.” Really odd, man.

It is NOT TRUE that Muslims cannot rent a house in Japan ( if by “house” you mean something that has a lot as well ).

There are MANY Muslim students in Japan. I met a lot of them when I was a student there — Pakistani, Egyptian, Persian, even Arabic.

There is also no truth to the claim that that you cannot import a Koran into Japan. There are several mosques operating in Japan.

SEE HERE:

http://japanfocus.org/-Kawakami-Yasunori/2436/article.html

At the mosque in Ebina, Kanagawa Prefecture, about 10 children around age 10 are learning the Arabic alphabet. Every day from 4 pm to 8 pm, the mosque holds Koran classes. They started last November, at the urging of Pakistani and Bangladeshi Muslims living in the area who wanted their children to be properly versed in the ancestral religion and the Arabic language. The classes are taught by the parents themselves.

Finally, regarding embassies, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains embassies in several predominantly Islamic countries, including Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Comoros, and Egypt.

Pakistan, also not on the list of ‘terror’ nations.

Is there an official list of "terror nations"? There is a list of "terrorist organizations", but I'm unaware of a list of "terror nations".

As I recall, Cruz described his moratorium as applying to countries which had a presence of al-Qaeda, ISIS or other similar terror groups. In which case, Pakistan would be included.

Are you confused.

The only thing I'm confused about is how so many presumably conservative FReepers who have been around here for so long have been duped into this notion that just because Trump likes to say outrageous and rude things that this means he is therefore "politically incorrect" and therfore conservative. He is a pro-big government, croney corporatist, elitist who favors socialized medicine for the masses but will never have to endure it because his wealth will allow him to bypass it. His popularity here on FR does truly baffle and confuse me. It is almost as if we have been taken over by sleeper cells of Daily Kos acolytes who have lain dormant here for years or something.

I called him by his actual name, Rafael Edward Cruz, and it makes you go bonkers.

Very odd indeed. You better check that Theo.

“C’mon, Ted, you’re smarter than that.”

A meme’s gotta do what a meme’s gotta do - So Ted’s PACs give him marching orders ... Anti-establishment, my arse!

Trump is right (again): When PAC money talks, Bulls**t walks.

OK, so just those Musloids from Syria and Iraq are excluded - Ted Cruz’s statement implies the welcome mat is put out for all others. You can pitch it any way you like - but, on this issue, Donald Trump is 100% correct and Ted Cruz is 100% wrong.

Cruz has a weak spot. A bad one. Immigration. Don’t tell me he is conservative on that.

WE would be on the list of nations that include ISIS and al-qaeda.

Ditto France, the UK, Germany and other of our ‘allies’.

At this time, what do you suppose would be the chance of passage if any other countries were included? And it's a good start...

More succinctly, just refusing entry to those from Syria and Iraq wouldn’t have prevented 9/11 or the SB massacre.

And if we include nations with an ISIS presence we inadvertently include our own allies.

If Islam one day evolves into something peaceful and humane, than I am all for them coming here and becoming American citizens. The problem is that Islam is now essentially as it was in 800 or so, there has been no progress.

Indians don’t scalp other tribesmen, Japanese shoguns no longer deploy bands of samurai against each other, and so on. Many cultures that once practiced rather abhorrent things in their history, but they grew and became enlightened over time.

Why has this not happened to Islamic culture? What is keeping them in the Dark Ages?

Yep, the Constitution is not a suicide pact. People have no right to come here and prohibiting the immigration of Muslims is just good sense.
