Turkey just can't seem to help itself when it comes to escalations in the Mid-East.
First, Erdogan intentionally reignited the conflict between Ankara and the PKK in an effort to scare the public into nullifying a democratic election outcome. Then, the Turks shot down a Russian warplane near the Syrian border. Finally, in what very well might be an effort to protect Islamic State oil smuggling routes, Erdogan sent 150 troops and two dozen tanks to Bashiqa, just northeast of Mosul in a move that has infuriated Baghdad.
We discussed the troop deployment at length on Saturday in "Did Turkey Just Invade Iraq To Protect Erdogan"s ISIS Oil Smuggling Routes?,â and youâre encouraged to review the analysis in its entirety, but here was our conclusion:
"The backlash underscores the fact that Iraq does not want help from NATO when it comes to fighting ISIS. Iraqis generally believe the US is in bed with Islamic State and you can bet that Russia and Iran will be keen on advising Baghdad to be exceptionally assertive when it comes to expelling a highly suspicious Turkish presence near Najma."

Then we in the West are almost uniformly wrong.
Everyone but Obama refers to it as ISIS.
The sooner, the better.
aren’t the turks in kurdistan, the former Iraq?
ISIS 272,000,000 hits
The president needs to pull his head out and start referencing ISIS along with the rest of the people in the West.
It's the Bombay vs Mumbai thing. Puckistan vs Packistan.
I don’t disagree with that, but when the group is addressed as ISIS at a 10 to 1 rate of ISIL, he needs to get up to speed on the proper terminology.
The West is referring to it as ISIS.
I posted the Google search engine results to you.
Somebody says it was more than that, a coded reference to a Middle East without Israel (Bam-Jar’s dream)
Remember what it was like when we had a real President?
Gosh, things were better then.
Now, we have President Fumblebutt.
You’re quite correct, of course.
L
Wrong. ISIL makes direct reference to the western word “Levant” which includes all the land east of the eastern shore of the Mediterranean.
He uses “ISIL” as veiled threat against Israel.
I believe it does matter. He is trying to confuse people by using a name most folks don’t use. It takes the heat off of ISIS, which everyone knows is who was affiliated with these problems.
His supporters see it as him being right and everyone else being wrong. They think there is such a thing as a group called ISIL that is different than ISIS.
He needs to stay on the same page with everyone else.
This guy won’t miss a trick to muddy the waters. We shouldn’t let him get away with it.
And I do find it interesting that he defers to a name used in the Middle East rather than the one used in the West.
ISIL refers to the region as if Israel didn’t exist
That’s why the islamists who write obamas speeches use ISIL instead of ISIS
That makes sense. Not to dispute you, but I would love to have documentation on that, to be used at other times.
If you know of a place that documents that, I’d sure appreciate it.
It also speaks to him being in favor of no Israel if he’s going to use that name and it reflects what you think it does.
I’d love to be able to provide that to others.
I appreciate the mention.
After reading the article, I would advise you to read the first or second response.
Just heard Lindsay Graham and he uses ISIL.
Odd.
.
Democrats us ISIL. 54% of mentions of ISIL are Democrats.
58% of ISIS mentions are Republicans.
You might know Lindsey would be on the wrong side of that one.
Left a llink on another thread. We were discussing the words.
