Around Christmas or more likely around Ramadan?
Just an observation...but when you observe Islamic men over the age of forty...they all have some form of health issue. This comes from the repeated (yearly) episode of Ramadan...when they go for twelve-plus hours a day without liquid replenishment or food. I think any lab team ever did a study on the kidney issues....more than half of all Islamic guys have serious problems.

Actually, they do have many health issues although I’m not sure it’s from Ramadan. I read somewhere that they have early onset arthritis (or some disease that affects the limbs) that puzzles doctors. I would go more for inbreeding than anything else - certainly their inability to refrain from anger and violence is a symptom of that.
“Around Christmas one year” seems an odd reference to muslims feasting on a goat they took some trouble to obtain. As if getting a goat for Christmas was their family tradition? Let me guess, the author was stepping lightly over the religion of Islam.
The closest Ramadan to Christmas was in Dec 1999-Jan 2000, and though there’s no guarantee this was for Ramadan, I think it probable since they procured 2 goats at one time, which is traditional, possibly one to kill at the beginning of Ramadan and the other for the feast at the end.

Actually, it’s more straight forward than that and well known to those in the culture. From a local news source here:

The fact the father was a nutjob Muslim doesn’t make a difference, nor do all the other tidbits about the terrorist and his wife. There is nothing there to prove the couple “kept a tight lid” on anything. Nothing about the other visitors in the night, nothing about online actions, nothing that speaks PROOF.
There is a very complicated backstory and run up here as to how this happened (radicalization) and we aren’t going to get the truth from a couple of effing NYT reporters, nor probably from the government now since they turned the home over to reporters for tabloid pictures.
