“Around Christmas one year” seems an odd reference to muslims feasting on a goat they took some trouble to obtain. As if getting a goat for Christmas was their family tradition? Let me guess, the author was stepping lightly over the religion of Islam.
The closest Ramadan to Christmas was in Dec 1999-Jan 2000, and though there’s no guarantee this was for Ramadan, I think it probable since they procured 2 goats at one time, which is traditional, possibly one to kill at the beginning of Ramadan and the other for the feast at the end.
Not to mention a month of "pleasure" with the second one.
Why is it odd for someone such as Mr. Venegas, with a Spanish-European name and background, to reference Christmas?
