There are no more white cab drivers in NYC. The New York Times reported earlier this year that only 6 percent of yellow cab drivers are even American-born. So when Leon and other blacks are not getting picked up, the drivers passing them by are not white racists. They are mostly Indian and/or Pakistani men (and a very few women) -- men of color. What gives?
I happened to be in a cab driven by a black man from Senegal... this cabbie went off on his own racist rant about the difference between American blacks and those from other countries. He claimed he could tell from half a block away whether someone was an American black or not, and he said he made it a point to try never to pick up American blacks.

Would you like to drive around with a trash talking, grilled faced, pants dropped gang looking kid sitting right behind you? Forget color.
I understand the concept but.....
A black man i enjoy hearing is Charles Payne. He is on Fox Business and I see him often on Cavuto. He is a pure wall street type through and through, blue pinstripe suit and all. He noted that there were times when he had problems getting a cab.
The numbers in the black subculture of Charles Payne is probably small, but they apparently have some problems created by the feral black urban subculture away from Manhatten

No, I wouldn’t like that and I won’t do it.
“Forget color.”
I do my best to forget it, some people won’t let you forget it though.
“Do they still have those Haitian cab drivers in Harvard Square? They were the worst.
I don’t know but my worst experience was with an Eastern European.
I was going from the airport to Newton and he didn’t know where Newton was. I kid you not.
.
I believe they are the “Travelers”.
I have a similar situation with a couple of black co-workers that are comfortable dealing with me because I’m so far removed from their petty BS with each other. At the same time, I actually relate to them (and Hispanic co-workers) as they, like me, are trying to raise families. Many of my white co-workers have opted for a different route, so we have a lot less in common.
But NYC is nothing but foreigners from Spanish Harlem to Koreatown.

True, but the last time I checked NYC had 4 other boroughs.

African blacks and immigrants in general (barring refugees and illegal latinos), are educated and represent upper-classes in their respective societies. They could afford plane tickets, for example, and enough money to switch continents; to them, especially to African black immigrants, American blacks represent slaves who just have not made any progress in terms of education and wealth. Just like rich and upper/middle-class whites are embarrassed of poor whites, the well-off immigrants look down upon and fear poor native blacks.
Because it doesn’t pay and it’s a dirty, unpleasant job.
well, Ethiopians bring in extended families — so a cousin will work for a cousin for very little money and they can share the small amounts and the risk.
I didn’t know it is low-paying.
I walked down Roosevelt Avenue in Queens on May 6, 2015, and everyone I saw looked “foreign.” I didn’t feel particularly threatened, but it is HRC country there. It was a cool, cloudy afternoon.
it’s low-paying because the medallions are owned by big groups that paid up to $1 million for each, so they charge the journeymen drivers a lot as “rent”

Here in my home town, the yellow cabs are pink, so I wonder why they are still called yellow cabs.
