Trump says Jews won't vote for him because they can't control him with their money [Can't take a jok

Donald Trump, speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), repeatedly said that Jews won't vote for him because, since he isn't accepting donations, they will not be able to control him with their money.

“You are not going to support me even though you know I am the best thing that could happen for Israel. I know why you are not going to support me. You’re not going to support me because I don’t want your money,” Trump told a full auditorium of Jewish donors and Republican Jewish supporters. “You want to control your own politicians.”

This plays into anti-Semitic claims that Jews control the country with their money.  Has he said this to any other group?  Has he told evangelicals that they won't vote for him because they can't control him with their donations?  No.  Only the Jews.

It is totally bizarre that he would say something so offensive to Jewish voters.  Furthermore, why would he ever tell any group of voters that they are not going to vote for him?  If that's true, why did he even speak to them?  It's a defeatist attitude.

I don't believe, on the basis of this alone, that Donald Trump is an anti-Semite, but these statements put his judgement into question.

Furthermore, he displayed stunning ignorance of what is going on in Israel.  He said that once he is president, he is optimistic that with his deal-making skills he can bring peace between the Israelis and Palestinians in six months, or perhaps less, if both are "committted" to peace.

the title must be paraphrased from this.

Mercer is also a (big) donor to Karl Rove’s Crossroads PAC.

Club fior Growth is a big time Open Borders group. Not a great one to be accepting donations from, now that Illegal immigration is (thankfully!!) on the front burner :)

Am I missing what was suppose to be so offensive? He doesn’t want to take their money so they won’t support him. It would be a stretch to say he meant all jews want to control politicians through their money.

Calling everyone you don’t like “anti-semitic” kind of makes the term lose its impact.

You forget that Freerepublic has a large group of “christians” that think jews are better than everyone else and are above reproach.

My theory: Trump has close Jewish friends. They talk to one another this way, with the jokes and the not-so-funny. John Podhoretz has even remarked on his “strangely Yiddish-inflected” speech. What Trump MAYBE didn’t keep in mind was that the whole world was listening, including those who wouldn’t get the familiarity and the inside jokes, and would interpret that wrongly. Trump thinks it’s a good thing to be a good negotiator, so that wasn’t insulting. It only looks insulting to people who think it’s a bad thing.

By the way, I don’t think he said he hadn’t decided about an undivided Jerusalem. I think he said he wasn’t going to say right now whether he would insist upon it. My feeling is that he will. But it goes with his general negotiating strategy that you don’t give anything away ahead of time.

This ass takes Trump’s statements entirely out of context. Even the ADL came out and said Trump wasn’t being anti-semitic.

As a conservative Jew let me say: that is one dumb-ass thing to say to a roomful of conservative Jews.

The article takes Trump out of context, but, for the record, this is the Republican Jewish Coalition which is filled with big money donors, most of whom are already funding pro-amnesty candidates. The board of directors include Sheldon Adelson and other people closely tied to the Bush campaign.

It is a true statement with a big if. Sort of like saying I could be a woman if I had been born with indoor plumbing.

It's a complete fabrication invented by the author. Trump said he would know if it's possible for there to be a peace process at all within 6 months upon meeting the two parties. Not that he would have it all sorted in 6 months.

Yep, they were loving him. Lots of laughter and applause. A few boos where appropriate. And he said he wanted to meet with Bibi on that.

Can you please, for our benefit, cite a reliable source for that?

You can watch the entire speech. It's 30 minutes but very good.

Cruz appeals to only the rightest-most conservatives

Problem with Cruz is his personality, his mannerisms. He does not come off good to the wider public, even if they happen to agree with his positions.

This is Donald Trump joking and bantering with a Jewish audience. I am Jewish and would have laughed. I would not be offended. Among themselves (ourselves) I can assure you Jews joke around about such stuff. Next time Trump needs to get Don Rickles to open for him

This is the ADL and other Jewish libs and Jewish Hillary voters stirring the pot. Screw ‘em! And as far as Israel goes Trump will be much better than Hilary who would be as awful as the Muzz in the White House.

I am a Trump supporter all the way!! Ted Cruz is good too but not as electable.
THE DONALD is a LOCK against Hillary.

“As a conservative Jew let me say: that is one dumb-ass thing to say to a roomful of conservative Jews.”

Why? There are plenty of candidates running who will openly pander to any special interest, including the RJC. Trump won’t accept their money, so why would they support him. Their sole purpose is to influence candidates to support their causes. Trump said that he’d be a supporter of Israel - and doesn’t want their money to do it.

I think they want Trumps brand of honesty, even if they don’t support him in the primaries.

“That tells us that he still needs to convince the 65 to 68% to vote for him.”

No, that tells us, at this point in the primary process, barring any bombshells or party shenanigans that he will be the nominee.

In other words, there is Trump and everyone else.

Well, you seem to be certain about that. As for me, I’m not sure.

It could be that the 65 to 68% of others will move to someone else as the number of candidates drop out.

I didn’t say that. That is your conjecture. Frankly, I don’t understand the appeal a of trump in the first place. He’s a recycled labor liberal with a few conservative views pasted on to long-held liberal stands. I ain’t buying. Under any circumstance.
