JUNEAU -- Newly elected Mayor Greg Fisk died of natural causes Monday, and facial injuries that sparked rumors of an assault actually came from a fall, Juneau police said Wednesday.

"The first assumption was someone had done something to him," said Bryce Johnson, Juneau police chief. An autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiner Office in Anchorage, Johnson told reporters at a press conference in Juneau Wednesday afternoon. Two Juneau detectives in Anchorage on other business attended the autopsy, he said.

The cause of death has not been specified, but Fisk had a history of heart issues, Johnson said

Preliminary autopsy results, but looks very likely to have been natural causes; the bruises/facial injuries would not have killed him.

Usual procedures for an unattended death.

My apologies to the good Mayor for posting on a different thread that improper use of safe words could have been a contributing factor.

People with heart conditions often take blood pressure meds that thin the blood and cause them to bruise very easily.

Yes, and if the fall down from a heart attack face first it can look like an assault.

I actually have a friend who is working on an app to notify authorities when the wearer of a bracelet device dies or is indicates an irregular beat.

He tried a check in method - you check in every week or every other day or every day. But if you forget you may have a problem with a false 9/11 call. LOL

Glad to hear it wasn't from supernatural causes.

You wouldn't bruise without a heartbeat, but lividity can make an injury look a lot like a bruise.

I agree.

Local news in Southeast Alaska said what I posted.

And once again, the autopsy results are preliminary.

I am not jumping to a conclusion.
Are you?

No, I always believe what the media and authorities tell me. After all, the Senator from Nevada got severe facial injuries when a rubber band slipped.

He is still alive.

No autoptsy performed by the state medical examiner in that case.

A "minor", but signifanct difference, wouldn't you say?
