Twitter threats to black Kean students made by black alum, police say

ELIZABETH — A recent Kean graduate has been charged with being responsible for a series of tweets threatening black students at the school two weeks ago, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Tuesday.

Kayla-Simone McKelvey, 24, of Union was charged by summons with third-degree creating a false public alarm.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Simone McKelvey was Kean's Homecoming queen in October 2014 and president and treasurer of the school's Pan-African Student Union. A university spokesperson said she graduated in May 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education.

Reminds me of the Tawana Brawley hoax.

Despite the media circus that went on for months over that one, the police knew from Day 1 that it was a hoax. They figured she had scrawled the racial epithets on herself with her own feces because the word "N!GGER" was spelled wrong.
