A pediatric emergency medicine physician is urging doctors to join the effort for gun control by asking about gun ownership while performing health histories on their patients.
A panel titled âThe Tipping Point: Activating a Public Health Movement to Address Gun Violenceâ was featured at the American Public Health Association (APHA)âs 2015 annual meeting in Chicago earlier in November. The panel called for a view of gun violence as a public health emergency situation.

also an answer could be “Is this a physical exam or a psychological exam? I thought I was hear for physical exam- Why am I being asked about issues that pertain to psychological issues? If I want a psychological exam, I’ll go see a psychiatrist”
“There was another 2 page form that asked non medical questions. On this form it asked if I own guns or kept guns in my house.”
Most likely entered then as Answer #3.
I would have told her it's none of her business how often I beat my wife.
Not appealing to us either Unfortunately we have a son who fell into drugs and literally made a baby with a crack whore He is in and out of jail it took us almost a year and one 401k to get custody. Another almost 20 mos and another 401k to terminate their rights and adopt her. But the only other option was to leave her with her crack and meth addled mother who keeps moving in with different abusive drug dealers. God will provide and we will figure out how to raise a child while trying to retire!
Social services was no help They will only take the children of conservative Christians it seems Thank God for our attorney and the court system Otherwise I shudder to think where my daughter would be now...
You have my sympathy and prayers Blessings as you try to figure out what is best for all involved
Not necessarily. The answer to this is apparently among one of the thousands of "codings" that are REQUIRED by the Obamacare act. If you decline to answer, that tells the government a lot about YOU. If the doctor declines to ask, that tells the government a lot about HIM (OK Austingirl, or HER). Neither case is good. The real problem is that the doctor is required to ask. It's time to get the government completely out of the doctor's office.
It was a calamity!
The government is not getting out of the doctor’s office unless we fundamentally change the US back to what we used to have.
Domestic violence will rid you of your guns, and there is no remedy to get them back.
Thank you for that advice. My doc office now has a one star rating on yelp. The next time they start their interrogation, I will give them fair warning that I will answer questions until they ask one that is unrelated to my health; then I will end the interview.
bttt
Problems at your house? Why yes. The neighborhood cat keeps pooping in your flowerbeds, the cable goes out every time it rains, the fridge is on life support and the dang roof is leaking again...is that what you meant doc?
I’m with you. Punch the quack in the face.
I live in a state that is both Constitutional Carry and Open Carry (Maine).
No permits are needed.
Proud of it! Molan Labe!
Which is complete hogwash. A number of industrialized countries with virtual gun bans have significantly higher suicide rates than the US with its very high rate of gun ownership.
There is no correlation with gun ownership and suicide. And certainly no causation. Two statistical terms that those numbnuts in the AAP have no clue about.
Well said!
I like the do you feeeel safe at home? question too..
Uhhhh . I guess. ;-)
Answer by saying, “I have knives in my home.”
Change to NOYFB
I’ve been to many different doctors here in Maine over the years and I have never been asked anything about guns.
If a doctor did ask, I’m tempted to say to the doctor....
“If I say no, I don’t own any firearms, and someone with bad intentions who works in your office sees my questionnaire, they may try to break into my home in order to rob me because they know that I am not armed.
If I say yes, this same person with bad intentions who works in your office and sees my questionnaire may try to break into my home when I’m not there in order to steal my firearms.
So either way, doctor, my security will be put at risk. Therefore, I will not and can not answer your question.”
