The cops, to their credit, don't want to go in guns blazing and inadvertently blast anyone that might be hiding from the gunman.

Early witnesses said he was shooting at cars from parking lot. Went inside PP later.

Sounds like bullet-proof glass in PP clinic complicating matters as well.

I seem to recall the removal of “military style vehicles and weapons” from local police included 50 cal sniper weapons. Why in the world would they want to do this. This police department in Colorado Springs is certainly acting with caution and logic toward the hostages and trapped bystanders. Shouldn’t they have the best available sniper weapons??

Because it is extremely difficult to clear a building when there are non-combatants inside and you don't want to kill any of them in a cross-fire.

Also, the shooter is armed with at least an automatic rifle (AK-47), bullet-resistant armor, and lots of ammunition. There may be other nasty things as well in the two duffel bags that he carried into the building.

The Police would like to go home tonight.
