BOSTON - The Anti-Defamation League said it is "deeply disappointed" with GOP governors, including Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, for refusing to accept Syrian refugees after Friday's ISIS attacks that killed 129 people and injured more than 430 others in Paris.
"This country must not give into fear or bias by turning its back on our nation's fundamental commitment to refugee protection and human rights," Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan A. Greenblatt said Monday, urging governors to keep their doors open during the humanitarian crisis.
"Now is precisely the time to stand up for our core values, including that we are a proud nation of immigrants," Greenblatt said. "To do otherwise signals to the terrorists that they are winning the battle against democracy and freedom."
Baker said he will not allow Massachusetts to accept any Syrian refugees until he learns more about how the federal government plans to screen them. "I would say no as of right now. I'm not interested in accepting refugees from Syria," he said Monday. "I would need to know a lot more than I know now before I agree to do anything."
After the Paris attacks, Baker and fellow Republican governors in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin announced they would not take in refugees trying to escape the violence in Syria, USA Today reports.
The concern, according to the Republican state leaders, is that Syrian refugees seeking resettlement in the United States might include people with terrorist ties. As of Monday evening, only one Democratic governor, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, had joined the chorus of GOP governors opposed to accepting refugees.
President Barack Obama has called on the U.S. to accept up to 10,000 refugees from Syria, where fighting has displaced millions, but Baker and other state leaders remain skeptical. However, the governor did not entirely rule out accepting refugees in the future, if the feds establish an appropriate vetting process.
The ADL, which fights antiâSemitism and promotes fair and humane immigration policies, has called Europe's current migrant crisis "the worst since World War II." The Jewish community is particularly affected by images of Syrians â more than half of the refugees hail from Syria â being uprooted from their homeland "only to find they are unwanted anyplace else," Greenblatt said.
"Many of these refugees are fleeing the same terrorists who perpetrated the horrendous attacks on Paris," he said.
The ADL has joined with several other Jewish organizations to form the Jewish Coalition for Syrian Refugees in Jordan in response to the humanitarian crisis resulting from Syria's civil war.
Government representatives have already said States do not have the authority to stop the Federal government allowing these ‘refugees’ into the US. Further, they said that the government contracts or works with religious organizations to sponsor, house and place the refugees over the long term.
I say the states should be taking away the breaks they get on property taxes, they should require them to provide their own physical armed security, and they should force them to take out massive liability insurance policies on their ‘refugees’ in case they commit terrorism. In short, every aspect the states legally have authority and responsibility over them should be brought to influence.
Screw the federal government; they are abrogating their primary responsibility to us in protecting us from harm without. They are DIRECTLY importing terrorists in my opinion.
I recently saw a documentary on a Nazi convicted at Nuremberg. He was asked why they killed so many Jews. His response? “Because they were so easy to kill.”
Looks like the American Jews in the ADL have the same death wish and want to take all of us with them. Or maybe they love their liberalism (which is a mental disease) more than they do life.
I am deeply disappointed in the ADL, and American Jews in general, for supporting this Progressive cancer that is rotting our nation’s soul.
Of course, the soul of America is an idea that represents the ideal of Christian Freedom, the idea that God so loved the world that he sent his only Son to die for each and every one of us and that it’s not about bloodlines or tribes or adherence to laws any more.
Nor does the ADL have anything to say about rejecting Christians as genocide victims.
man, I get worried about all the folks from New York who’ve moved here much less moosie bastards from syria.
This discussion is outing or enemies nicely. Now we are learning who Obama is working with. Catholic Charities surfaced recently.
Is that in the constitution? That part about commitment to refugees and such-like?
Seems a lot of folks think that an infinite commitment to universal niceness is possible to finite, limited, and human... beings. They keep lecturing about finite resources and sustainable lifestyle. You would think they might wake up to the fact that America is a finite resource and scattershot, unending, mindless philanthropy (so-called) is an unsustainable lifestyle.
I think it is more that our ghouls in positions of power are free-balling their interpretation of the utopian Constitutional ideal. They CONCOCT all sorts of “it’s un-American not to.....” and nebulous rights that aren’t enumerated in the Constitution.
It’s part of their ‘living document’ meme whereby they and judges can interpret some pretty clear and concise words to mean any damn thing they want them to be.
Obama is bound and determined to substantively change the demographics in this country; specifically, by introducing untold numbers of Muslims. He is doing this because he is one, period.
If during WW2, we didn’t apply a religious test and allowed in 99% non-jewish Germa s fleeing the war, would the ADL be okay with that or would they call it shameful that we treat the oppressor the same as the oppressed.
When the ADL is “disappointed”, it’s almost always a good thing for decent people.
Like much of society, many of these organizations have been hijacked by Progressives and no longer act in the best interest of Jews.
It’s been like that for a very long time.

The number one core value is to protect the people from terrorists intent on killing them
There was no strolling, jerk.
How many ADL leaders have ties to Hillary and the Dems?
Beyond that I would say the coalition in Syria that created ISIS and the ‘refugee-migrant’ crisis has ‘official’ members like the Saudis and Gulf Arabs, the EU and the US and its Uniparty foreign policy elite, the neocon intellectuals like Charles Krauthammer and then its “unofficial” members which I believe to include Israel and the “Israel Lobby” like the America Israel Public Affairs Committee.
For the sake of Israel’s security, taking out Assad is part of a strategy of ‘containment’ of Iran and its ability to attack Israel.
I believe all of the elements I mentioned above can handle the Iran nuclear deal (it was needed for world economic stimulation through lifting of sanctions) and are actively pursing this containment strategy along with the development of stronger anti-missile capabilities for Israel and the Arab nations who are Iran’s adversaries in the region.
So you think Jews have different brains that other human beings; this is classic antisemitism; what is your religious affiliation ?
I quit donating the Catholic Charities long ago. In my church envelope system I am able to donate directly to my parish.
Is there someplace beyond stupid, self-destructive, and totally, insanely, morally corrupt?
Well, here it is.
