A former deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) says the U.S. strategy toward the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS) “is not working.â€
Michael Morell said recent attacks by the terrorist group in Paris and on a Russian passenger plane show it’s time for the U.S. to reconsider its strategy.
“I think it’s now crystal clear to us that our strategy, our policy vis-à -vis ISIS is not working, and it’s time to look at something else,†Morell said on CBS’s “Face the Nation†on Sunday.
He said the U.S. may need to rethink its opposition to Syrian President Bashar al Assad.
“You know, clearly he’s part of the problem, but he may also be part of the solution, right?†Morell said. “An agreement where he stays around for a while and the Syrian army, supported by the coalition, takes on ISIS may be the best result here.â€
He said the U.S. needs to take seriously the sophisticated attacks ISIS has proven capable of carrying out.
“You’ve got a large number of operatives. They have to get explosives. They have to get weapons. They have to communicate among themselves and communicate back to Iraq and Syria,†Morell said. “This is a level of sophistication that we have not seen since the London bombings in 2005.â€
This was major & complicated, you are right. France really dropped the ball on this. Part of me wonders if they inside help, given how close they got to Hollande.

I take exception to the claims of sophistication, a bomb planted in a cargo hold by a sleeper agent isn’t sophistocated and while bloody and horrific suicide bombing and shooting fish in a barrel isn’t sophistocated either.
Yes our non policy policy is a failure but none of these come across to me as highly sophistocated
Here's the strategy:
Inflate the "intelligence' bureaucracy.
Create excuses for top 'Intelligence' people to fly around the world 'meeting' with other 'intelligence' people.
Talk and exchange ideas.
"Discover' more spying on American citizen is necessary.
Inform the idiots in Washington that "YES" they are right - bring over 250,000 Syrians and distribute them around the United States. (Less then ten terrorist were active in Paris... LESS than ten... and these fools want us to bring in 250,000 people to 'watch' with $100,000 a year 'intelligence professionals'...)
Again inflate the intelligence bureaucracy to cover surveillance of 250,000 Syrians...
Make sure TV/Fox/CNN spots are open so "Intelligence / CIA blowhards can put their faces on TV...
That's the 'strategy' Rooster... AND it has NOTHING to do with making us safe.

Aside form hundreds of millions seized with banks, they have been selling stolen (captured) oil through Turkey, trucked out in convoys. If just a handful of A-10s were allowed to create a truck shortage, that would put a ding in their ongoing cash flow.
