Actress Jennifer Lawrence says she's "embarassed" that she grew up in the same state as Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Lawrence, who has been on a crusade on Hollywood's gender pay gap, brought up the subject in an interview with Vogue published Wednesday night.
According to interviewer Jonathan Van Meter, the interview took place the day after Davis got out of jail, and Lawrence brought her up because she views Davis as the "lady who makes me embarrassed to be from Kentucky."
"Don't even say her name in this house," she told Van Meter before criticizing "all those people holding their crucifixes, which may as well be pitchforks, thinking they're fighting the good fight. I grew up in Kentucky. I know how they are."
The "Hunger Games" star went on to discuss her political upbringing and how they clash with her current world views.
"I was raised a Republican, but I just can't imagine supporting a party that doesn't support women's basic rights," she said. "It's 2015 and gay people can get married and we think that we've come so far, so, yay! But have we? I don't want to stay quiet about that stuff."
It also turns out that Van Meter was scooped by Entertainment Weekly on a choice Lawrence quote about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump. She told Entertainment Weekly's Nicole Sperling in October that a Trump presidency "will be the end of the world," something she had previously said to Van Meter verbatim.
"My view on the election is pretty cut-and-dried: If Donald Trump is president of the United States, it will be the end of the world," she told Van Meter, though she added, "he's also the best thing to happen to the Democrats ever."
OK, she’s going for a two-fer today.
Well, Hollywood. It’s what happens to most of them.
Looks like the kooks in hollyweird have managed to switch her. I thought she used to be at least a little conservative.
Who?
The stupid, it burns.
Bye-Bye!
“I don’t want to stay quiet about that stuff.”
Diana in Wisconsin: Paying to see movies you’re in? Not going to happen. I don’t want to stay quiet about that stuff.
I need Jennifer’s opinion like I need another hole in my ass
How lucky Ms Lawrence is to have such a firm grasp of all things, such vast stores of knowledge, all in just 25 years!
Shut up and sit down, ding a ling.
Louisville is 137mi from Morehead. A world apart. Folks in Rowan County are much different.
If I was from Kentucky, I would be embarrassed that Jennifer Lawrence was from there also.
So she will be moving out of her gated community, limos and armed guards?
Pray America wakes
That nasty woman has a lot more to be embarrassed about than her birthplace. I can’t watch her movies anymore.
Another one who was much prettier until she opened her mouth.
Well Jenny my beautiful warrior princess, it’s really better to be silent and have people think you’re an effing moron than voice your opinions and remove all doubt.
Hollywood Groupthink.
Same thing happened to Jessica Alba who came to Hollywood as a devout Christian and after a few years basically said she had shrugged it all off, very clearly succumbing and conforming to peer pressure in Hollyweird.
She hates who she is so she has to become a Hollywood automaton. The Leftist Hive Mentality has snuck into her brain.
She traded character for fame.
I remember her insulting remark where she landed a film role after she was in Winter's Bone and Hunger Games and said, “At least I won't be playing a hillbilly again”.
Shame on her.
“For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”
-Luke 9:26
Apparently Jennifer, you are more embarrassed by your own looks considering the extensive plastic surgery you have had. Oh, perhaps you are trying to not look like you have a brain...it worked!
