Sen. Marco Rubio clarified his view on the 11 million immigrants, who are in the United States illegally. The day after a presidential debate, which exposed a continuing divide in the Republican Party on immigration, Rubio told NPR on Wednesday that he favors a path to citizenship for some, though the prospect would be very distant.
"If you haven't been here very long, or you're a criminal, you will be deported," Rubio told NPR's Morning Edition. "Otherwise, you will have to come forward, pass the background check, learn English, pay a fine, because you violated the law, start paying taxes, and you'll get a work permit. And that's all you're going to have for at least a decade."
Rubio went a step further. "After 10 years on the work permit, I personally am open to - after the 10 years have expired - to allowing people to apply for a green card, just through the normal process that anyone else would use."

Long govt paths are easily shortened later.
He's a lying, butt-covering little sleaze.
That's why he sweats so much...the effort to keep all his deceptions straight.
Create an army of technocrats. What could go wrong?
MEXICO Enacts Their Own Trump Plan â Deportations of Central American Illegals Up 70% (Video)
Certainly it will.
I can think of some long path scenario’s which I might accept if it mass bloodshed and violence. Citizenship is not the end result of any of them.
ALERT....ALERT...
BAIT and SWITCH!
I am confident his “very long path” is no more than empty words. IMO, it translate to what Obama said to Dmitry Medvedev when he thought his mic was off, “after my election, I have more flexibility”
The quintessential pandering politician: Can you tell me HOW an ‘illegal alien’ ISN’T ‘a criminal’??
Say Rubio, what law(s) do Citizens get to break w/out the full force of The Law coming down on their neck?
If none, how is that a non-Citizen has more capabilities/Rights than a lawful Citizen?
Thank you, sir, for making ‘whom gets my vote’ easier to pin-down.
'Very long' a technical term meaning what ever ruby wants it to mean.
Criminal, a technical term meaning someone that has been convicted of multiple murders, assaults and armed robberies and has escaped from jail.
Yes, Rubio’s weaseling on immigration assures that I will never vote for him.
They can take a short walk off a long path?
Makes me wonder what Archie Bunker would have to say about Rubio.
Not keen on penalizing biz, the blame and hurt should be on GOVT (say, remove all per diems, pay and retirement for any politician that DOESN’T do their job instead?)
IMO, the MOST important: KILL THE WELFARE STATE.
THEN the wall, taxing all transfers and then confiscation
So obviously, the system needs tweaking. Lock’em up...let the local judge rule...either you have papers or you don’t.
NPR finally performing a service.
Trump’s plan’s better.
Exactly. The checks and balances to determine what a :long time” is will be a joke. What are they going to use to prove they have been here a Long time”? Check stubs with stolen/fake SSNs?
“For Immigrants In U.S. Illegally, Rubio Favors ‘Very Long Path’ To Citizenship”
And that is why Rubio will not win the Presidency. Rubio lost the Conservative vote. Without it you cannot win. Maybe it’s time someone socialized that to the country.
Slow-motion amnesty. Exactly.
