I agree. Their positions on (and support for) abortion and same-sex "marriage" are reason enough to boycott Starbucks, not to mention their poor-quality coffee and ridiculous prices.
But this one is just silly. Their "holiday" cups have never been overtly Christmas-based--it's usually snowmen, ribbons, etc.--and the design changes every year. The fact that they changed to a minimalist design does not strike me as anti-Christmas. Especially considering that (according to their website at least) they are still selling a fair amount of Christmas-related things: a Christmas blend, an Advent Calendar, ornaments, etc.
Also, not sure why Trump (or any Presidential candidate) felt the need to jump into this non-issue.
You do realize Starbucks never had Christian or religious symbols on its coffee cups before, right? And that they continue to sell products that proclaim "Merry Christmas"?
Just the Second Amendment issue is enough to turn me off of Starbucks
I don't go to Starbucks because they make crappy, overpriced coffee. That's reason enough.
It’s a red cup—who cares?
Don’t buy their damn coffee.
I don’t get mad, I get sad. If the free market is any thermostat for the general public’s views of Christmas, they might as well say something like “snowy santa day!” or some other pagan greeting. Christians need to boycott santa, the bunny, and especially holloween.
JOY TO THE WORLD!
[He’ll rule] the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
Red Solo Cup?
Agree, the flap over the red cups is stupid and only gives progressives another reason to think ill of conservatives and/or Christians.
Other than that, I am sick of all the ‘outrage’ over EVERYTHING, by everyone.
Agree. It may seem silly to some, but it appears a lot more people are beginning to “focus.” that’s a very good thing. It might push them to get out and vote.
They change their design every year. And the designs are never overtly Christmas-oriented, so this year's is no different in that respect.
Just the Second Amendment issue is enough to turn me off of Starbucks AND all the other businesses who keep trying to get into the Social Issues game instead of minding their own business and running a business instead of trying to shape the way people think and live.
There, I agree. I had forgotten about their little Second Amendment debacle.
I completely disagree.
On Halloween, for example, that is “All Hallows Eve”, a Christian holiday, not a pagan one. And if we celebrate it at the same time as Samhain? So what? We took a pagan festival and removed it’s power. Why on earth would we give it power again by turning it back over to the pagans?
Santa Claus is a powerful image of Christianity. A real saint who worked among the oppressed poor and outcasts in Myra. A defender of Christianity against Arianism. If we taught more about Saint Nicholas, we would have a stronger church. If we have lost the religious connotations of Christmas, then perhaps we should resurrect the idea of Twelth Night for gift giving and celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday without gifts in our own homes.
Christians do not need to disengage with the world. Christians need to educate themselves, grow up in a spiritual manner (stop just drinking milk and eat some spiritual meat), and show the people of this world that life in Christ is full and robust. It means we have the strength to engage people and not to boycott them.
Be careful Donald, could come back to bite you.
As in:
"This is a strange election, isn't it?" he said, "If you try and beat up your middle school music teacher to the point you're packed off to military school, your poll numbers go up."
I’m not on Facebook, but my 21 yo daughter showed me something that a Christian had posted on FB about the controversy. They said that writing Merry Christmas on the cup and creating a brouhaha over it would not win over anyone to our cause. But perhaps acting like a loving Christian, and trying to engage in a civil conversation about it might. Reminds me somewhat of the religion forum here, where the vitriol flies and no hearts are converted. I think we, as Christians, need to rethink our methods of changing minds and hearts. Vitriol and belligerence might make you feel better but isn’t going to bring anyone around to our way of thinking.
See what? Quit insulting, and objectively inform me. I’m listening.
Beck is obsessed with Trump. His website is opposing naming Starbucks anti-Christian. Any thing Trump is for; Beck is against with blood coming out of his eyes or whatever.
Do you seriously believe that when Jesus rules the world we will celebrate Easter or His birth with stories of the bunny or santa? We will be celebrating the Feast of Tabernacles, probably what I call Resurrection Day and maybe Holy Conception Day. I say Merry Christmas whenever I can, have nativities and wish others a Happy Resurrection Day.
As for All Saint’s Day, remembering God’s greatness in the lives of others is nice, but every Old Testament Holy Day was about God, not people.
Phoenix, Arizona
You’re free to get your coffee from any number of other places or open your own coffee shop.

Clearly you do not appreciate good coffee. 99% of coffee houses sell slop for coffee. It is hideous. Specialty coffee places at least in Arizona are few and far between.
As far as being free to start your own place is spoken by someone who does not understand how hard it is these days to open a successful biz especially retail. That is like saying that there is no monopoly on car manufacturing. Anyone is free to start a car company. Good luck with that.
There were a few years ago Starbucks like chains but they all went bust. Starbucks is the only specialty chain around. It is not as easy to start one like during the go go years.
There just is not an economy to start new coffee places and Starbucks is the only game in time.
I wasn't aware that people had stopped saying "Merry Christmas." I hear it all the time during Christmas season. I say it myself.
Is Trump going to sign an Executive Order requiring us to say "Merry Christmas"?
If the President supports and says “Merry Christmas” it will put a stop to hundreds/thousands of companies telling their employees they must say “Happy Holidays” or some such instead of “Merry Christmas.”
That was policy from the top at the library before I retired. You may NOT say Merry Christmas because you might offend someone.
Perhaps you haven’t noticed that most employees in businesses from restaurants to banks do not say Merry Christmas to you.
