At a campaign event in Springfield, Illinois, Donald Trump suggested a boycott of coffee giant Starbucks over the design of its Christmas coffee cups. The all-red design has angered religious conservatives who see it as part of an effort to undermine the meaning of Christmas.
"Starbucks is taking merry Christmas off [their cups] no more merry Christmas," Trump said.
"If I become president, we'll all be saying merry Christmas again," the candidate said to applause.
Trump told a raucous crowd, "Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don't know."
The real estate mogul also attacked his main rival, Ben Carson.
"This is a strange election, isn't it?", he said. "If you try and hit your mother over the head with a hammer, your poll numbers go up."
Carson has faced a barrage of questions in recent days over claims about his allegedly violent past.

Like I said, I don't drink coffee, so I don't know what the big thrill is.
having a few snowflakes or reindeer on the cup would be acknowledging Christmas? sorry, there is no there there on this one. YES, boycott re; abortion, but boycotting based on a red cup is silliness.
Trump is doing a great job getting sucked into stupid issues nobody cares about.
...........................................................
I think you’re wrong. Trump is letting all these “little issues” be brought to the attention of people to show how our liberties and free choices have been nibbled away under the guise of “not offending anyone.” The liberals have been gnawing at little things for years so they could put people asleep about the big things. i am enjoying watching people wake up to what we have lost in this country just in my lifetime.
That is very unusual.
A coffee shop to me is one with specialty coffee, not the usual crap that comes in a big class container.
But if that is what you have in your area, that is very unusual. I live in Arizona and there just are no coffee shops with really good coffees or teas.
That has to do with the new laws that make very hard to compete.
Starbucks has a monopoly on nothing. You're free to get your coffee from any number of other places or open your own coffee shop.
You actually think your "liberties and free choices" are at stake because Starbucks removed snowflakes from its coffee cups?
“Where is the proof that nobody is objecting.”
Well, you see, that’s the thing - I’m looking, and I’m not finding any proof that anybody is objecting.
There’s a whole lotta people pointing fingers, and I’m looking for what they’re pointing at, and I’m not seeing anything where they’re pointing.
I appreciate that some people don’t go to Starbucks for assorted sociopolitical reasons.
But we’re discussing a PARTICULAR sociopolitical reason, and I can’t find anyone on that particular side of that particular imputed issue.
If you don’t understand the essential problem with proving a negative, you’re an idiot.
“Starbucks is a monopoly on coffee houses.”
Not even close.
They’re popular, yes, but there are plenty of other options if you actually look for them.
Got a location in particular that you’re thinking of?
I think he made it more about himself and his reaction. He is ending the Starbucks’ lease in the Trump tower. Good enough!
Just because people have become used to the erosion of Christian values and the foundation this country was build on doesn’t make it right.
To you, maybe it’s silliness.
To me...and my principles....it’s not.
So, there’s that ;-D
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I’m surprised the cups aren’t blue
Thereâs a whole lotta people pointing fingers, and Iâm looking for what theyâre pointing at, and Iâm not seeing anything where theyâre pointing.
........................................................
There really are the blind ones who cannot, and will not SEE!
Obviously, you’re one of those.
Here, here! Normalcy bias is an ugly thing.
Does anyone care that the 10 commandments are removed from courthouses? Or is that just Christians being whiny?
It is a perfectly good reason, along with others. The problem is that “conservatives” always find ways not to do anything. Cut the cable?...”Well I need it for sports and the History Channel.” Take your children out of the child abuse centers known as “public schools? “Well...our schools are different”. There is always some stupid, damn excuse for not doing what could be done. Now our heroic conservatives can’t bring themselves to buy their overpriced coffee somewhere else.
Lucky you! Thanks for the summary
Snowflakes has nothing to do with it. Why did they change their design? I don’t care, but considering it is just the latest little slap at Traditional Americanism, it tends to bring all the other affronts of the past into the forefront. Just the Second Amendment issue is enough to turn me off of Starbucks AND all the other businesses who keep trying to get into the Social Issues game instead of minding their own business and running a business instead of trying to shape the way people think and live.
Good catch and I couldn’t agree more. It is all about the ridiculous political correctness, erosion of Christian values, and Trump is pointing it out piece by piece.
This whole Starbucks issue is just silly. They’ve never had “Merry Christmas” on their cups. They have holiday cups that the design changes yearly. No-one has told their barista’s to not say Merry Christmas. They even sell Christmas gifts there.
As for the CEO stating what you have said, that was completely fabricated. He had one of his shareholders argue with him over gay marriage.
His statement was exactly this, “If you feel, respectfully, that you can get a higher return than the 38% you got last year, it’s a free country. You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company. Thank you very much.”. HIs reply was based soley on business.
Starbucks is sold all over the world. I’ve personally seen them in Brazil, Mexico and Japan. Their marketting is done in the USA. They are not a Mom and Pop shop anymore and try to please the majority to keep sales up.
The guy who started this whole “controversy” is a troll. He is just looking for his 15 minutes of fame and we have given it to him. That being said, he looks pretty stupid.
If you don’t like the coffee, don’t drink it. It’s very simple. The color of a cup shouldn’t be the answer though. I don’t recall seeing scripture on any other coffee chains cup. I may have missed it in my travels though....
I think I’ll start endingevery post that way too
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
