Donald Trump Calls Controversy Swirling Around Ben Carson 'Very Strange'

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called the controversy swirling around his rival Ben Carson "very strange" Sunday, questioning stories Carson has told that have since been scrutinized.

Trump has questioned Carson several times about a childhood story in his autobiography "Gifted Hands" in which Carson described once trying to stab a friend or relative. He also questioned a story Carson has told about hitting his mother with a hammer.

“It's a strange situation when you talk about hitting your mother on the head with the hammer," Trump said on ABC's "This Week." "It's a weird deal going on and I hope it all works out because I don’t want to see Ben have problems over this stuff.”

On the campaign trail and in "Gifted Hands," Carson describes his teenage self as rage-filled and violent. But recent reports have questioned elements of that narrative and in new interviews, friends, neighbors and classmates from his childhood said the young man Carson describes is a far cry from the one they knew.

“I guess a book was written … before he was in politics, but he said he has 'pathological disease' in the book,” said Trump. “That's a very serious problem because that's not something that's cured. That's a very serious thing you have to live with.”

Trump is no stranger to these kind of accusations. He has been questioned about his actual worth, and in his own book “The Art of The Deal,” he wrote, “A little hyperbole never hurt." But when pressed about his exaggerations, he turned the conversation back to Carson.

Did Dr. Carson present the events from his past as “inspirational interpretations”? Or did he present them as facts? Any “inspirational biography” would be one in which the FACTS of one’s story are in themselves inspirational, without embellishment or alteration.

Don’t forget about the NOI and Louis Farrakhan connection.

Gifted Hands by and about Ben Carson, M.D., is the inspiring story of an inner-city kid with poor grades and little motivation, who, at age thirty-three, became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. ..

first review of the book when googled

If you don’t like Dr. Ben Carson as a candidate is one thing but to accept media lies as legitimate or use them knowing they’re lies to tear the man down. That is being a talebearer.

I did not know Ted Cruz has a Bush connection. He worked on George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign as a domestic policy adviser and served in the Bush administration as associate deputy attorney general in the Justice Department and director of policy planning in the Federal Trade Commission.

George W. Bush on Senator Cruz (on 18 October): “I just don’t like the guy.”

Cruz's response: “I have great respect for George W Bush, and was proud to work on his 2000 campaign and in his administration. It's no surprise that President Bush is supporting his brother and attacking the candidates he believes pose a threat to his campaign. I have no intention of reciprocating. I met my wife Heidi working on his campaign, and so I will always be grateful to him.”

Trump was a democrat who gave money to the Clintons. That’s just as much baggage as associating with Sharpton.

Also Rand Paul has been hanging with Sharpton.

Very problematic for all 3 candidates.

Wrong about Trump !

He gave money to Hillary for business reason; that's very different from Carson claiming that he "has the same goals ad Al Sharpton" !

Carson also supports BLACKLIVESMATTER", the NOI and screwy Louis Farrakhan.

I put any association with Sharpton at the top of my list as to undesirable associations. Other associations can also be undesirable but not to/at the level with Sharpton.

Trump would be better off taking on Carson on the PR statehood.

Yes. It’s in his book and it’s been mentioned quite a few times on different threads. He also helped assemble a legal team for GWB during the Bush vs Gore 2000 election recounts. He formed strategy, wrote pleadings for both the Florida and US Supreme Court winning 2 decisions for the Bush team.

He fought against the GWB administration in it’s attempt to have the US bow to the International Courts in Medellin vs
Texas. He won the case and the courts stated that the IC did not have jurisdiction in the US and the president had no power to enforce it.

From Wiki: “Cruz has been named by American Lawyer magazine as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in America, by The National Law Journal as one of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America, and by Texas Lawyer as one of the 25 Greatest Texas Lawyers of the Past Quarter Century.

His resume is quite extensive but his book covers almost all of it.

I’m curious though as to what this has to do with Carson and why you brought it up?

Hitlery is just as evil as sharpton.

Trump didn’t have to donate to hitlery he chose to. There are businessmen who don’t give to dems. Not impressed with excuses for Trump’s donations.

He gave when she was the Senator from N.Y. and yes, not quite "crony capitalism, but close; it was a payoff to be able to get things done. And if you don't think that others do the same kind of thing, you'd be dead wrong.

I'm not making any excuses, just telling you that that's how things are done and have been for millennia...all over the world.

Sharpton is more of a monster than you realize/know.

I just checked briefly in Amazon. It's listed as an autobiography not as an inspirational tale. The descriptions do go on to say it is an inspiring life story, but not that some of the facts have been changed to enhance that aspect.

It's "five star" reviews and positive reviews are without question. Two of the primary sources of rave reviews used to promote the book on its cover are from Ebony and from Jesse Jackson. (no that's not catty; I am wondering why Dr. Carson wouldn't choose more reliable universally highly regarded positive quotes. Racist?)

Oh my. Trump isn’t worth 10 billion . He’s only worth 4 billion. I’d like to quibble about that kind of difference.

“Exaggerating about one’s income or success in business is pretty common, but exaggerating about being violent and antisocial is unusual.”

Agree, and presented as an enhancement of ability to govern the nation.

“Trump was a democrat who gave money to the Clintons.”

1. Trump was a democrat. False assertion.

2. Gave money to the Clintons. Correct statement twisted to do the work of a lie. Trump also gave to Republicans, with a little more, overall, to Republicans.

Except Trump lied about his net worth in filing as a presidential candidate and went on to Forbes as an “incompetent” bankrupt” magazine for “embarrassing” him because 4 billion looked so much worse to the American people than 10 billion. If that is what he is counting on the voters are going to judge this election on, I’m even more unimpressed than before. All billionaires lie about their wealth, Donald Trump just does it more than most, which could easily spill over into the political arena by exaggerating results of a program or policy as president.

I personally have no clue about how much wealth Trump really has, neither do you nor Forbes magazine. Trump has stated that about twenty years ago, he was billions of dollars in debt and it wasn’t fun being Donald Trump at the time. He got out from under it, which is more than any of his financial detractors have accomplished.
