Family Research Council president Tony Perkins has been broadcasting his âWashington Watchâ radio program from Israel this week, where he is helping to lead an FRC tour group. Also on the tour is former Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, who joined Perkins on the program on Wednesday to share her view that biblical prophecy is being fulfilled all around her and that it was more urgent than ever to convert as many people as possible â including Jews â to Christianity to prepare for the imminent return of Christ.
âAlmost every article in the paperâ has to do with conflicts in Israel, Bachmann said, âand it ties with so much biblical prophecy. This week really was about biblical prophecy in many ways. And weâre seeing as events are speeding up, events are speeding up so quickly right now, and we see how relevant the Bible is, and weâre reading our newspaper, at the same time weâre learning about these biblical events, and itâs literally day by day by day, weâre seeing the fulfillment of scripture right in front of our eyes, even while weâre on the ground.â
âWe recognize the shortness of the hour,â she said, âand thatâs why we as a remnant want to be faithful in these days and do what it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to each one of us, to be faithful in the Kingdom and to help bring in as many as we can â even among the Jews â share Jesus Christ with everyone that we possibly can because, again, Heâs coming soon.â
Oy Vey, the Monotheist's Dilemma: If I'm right, you're wrong. If you're right, I'm wrong.
If you are right, why do you want to keep the light to yourself? Assuming of course that you believe you have been given light and are not merely engaged in some culturally intriguing curiosity.
Proselytizing is an excellent thing, mandated not only in the New Testament, but in the Tenach ("Old Testament" to you goyim out there) as well. The Psalms are full of it. Monotheism by its nature requires it, if one is to be truly compassionate. Sometimes I fear the "Thou Shalt Not Proselytize" folks are in fact closet polytheists, preferring one god among all the other "true for them" choices.
"I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples." Psalm 57:9, and literally hundreds of like passages. It does not say "I will praise you behind closed doors, so no one will take offense." You may not like my interpretation, but the preference for closed doors may well come from fear of persecution, but it is my perhaps unscholarly opinion that "Closedness" has actually encouraged suspicion over the centuries and played into false and dangerous gentile understandings of what it means to be "the chosen people," i.e., some sort of "superiority" or "secretive monopolistic position" rather than a people chosen to carry a particular life-changing message of blessing for the world (the "FedEx-men of the spiritual realm," if you will).
All that said, Bachman spoke inarticulately, which was then magnified by folks bifurcating her statement hoping to make her look extra bad. Apparently the Bifurcators achieved success.
Yep
“If you do not believe in Jesus, He doesn’t consider you a Jew:”
I believe in a historical Jesus of Nazareth, who may, for all I know, have been executed by the Romans.
And if his Jewishness is something Christians think Jews need to be cured it, I just shake my head.
“How does that differ from the Mooslimes believing we all have to be converted to their religion?”
Really?
Muslims want to kill you.
Followers of Christ want you to enjoy the Lord’s salvation, which is full reconciliation with the Creator. Don’t forget, Jesus was the JEWISH Savior, the promised Savior provided through the Jewish lineage. The Jewish people are indeed the chosen people of God, through whom the Messiah has been given.
I sense that when I am around Jewish people in spiritual settings like visiting a synagogue or joining Jews at spiritual retreats that I attend.
And you-all just want to obliterate Jews by absorbing them into your collectivity, just like the Borg. Same thing, spiritually.
We have our own brand of "the L-rd's salvation", and therefore we do not require any other religion's version of it. We do not believe that J.C. was any sort of savior, Jewish or not. Therefore, we are still waiting for OUR Messiah. But thanks for the good thoughts.
What Christians (and God) want to see obliterated is pride.
Yes, there is more of a negative space aspect to it (in modern Torah teaching) than a positive love aspect.
The Christ dynamic is not something you can believe in halfway. You have to say no, or yes. If you have said yes, then you have to live to it.
I’ve said yes.
You can go on and on, as you please, but it is untrue gibberish that you are attempting to sell as fact. Jews do not proselytize. And I don't have to waste my time justifying that precept to you or anyone else.
I already have my Treasure. G-d gave it to me. It’s the Torah. I don’t need your man-made version of anything. And I definitely cannot be coerced. Some have tried, to their everlasting sorrow.
I absolutely do not believe in J.C. And I could care less whether he considers me a Jew. G-d considers me a Jew, and His is the only opinion that counts to me.
Oh but you do, because you're mouthing off against Christians who simply believe in the holy scriptures. You should be confident enough that you wouldn't care.
It’s scary to think about all the congress folks who really got us excited then later showed their true colors or showed their insanity. There are so many that the liberals had pegged. Bachman is one of them.
I agree with Michelle sentiment to preach and convert Jews.
This is required of all Christians.
That is, “Michelle’s sentiment...”
My fingers and my iPhone don’t always communicate the best. :-)
I worry about the Mormons, Catholics, and ‘prosperity gospel’ deluded souls. God has the Jews as His work and has even posted His plans for them as the Age draws to an end. Jews will be quicker to recognize The Rapture than catholics will. And just to make sure, the Bible tells us His Spirit is going to seal 144,000 Jewish young men to share the truth of Jesus after The Bride has been snatched out of this place of coming tribulation.
If a Christian does not believe it is necessary to preach to the Jews, then they are not actually Christians.
Israel is nothing more than a secular state where even the Orthodox do not follow the Old Testament, but instead render the law void through their interpretations so that they do not fall under the curse of the law
If you do not believe in Jesus, He doesn't consider you a Jew.
Oh but you do, because you're mouthing off against Christians who simply believe in the holy scriptures.
Is that you Rick Wiles?
While you choose to wait indefinitely, that’s no reason to mock those that believe in the Jew that didn’t.
It is different, but your description that it's "more accurate" isn't all that correct.
Buddha put the golden rule the same way, quite a ways before the Jews supposedly did. What you mean to say is that it's "more safe".
What Jesus did was give a rule that was far more encompassing, far deeper in its scope, and was revolutionary to the human spirit. It did far more good when followed than the other, it genuinely changed the one who followed the rule in faith as well as others who saw what was being done. It was a quantum leap, and quite beautiful as a change in emphasis.
