ANCHORAGE â
Sen. Lisa Murkowski is running for reelection in 2016 to seek a third full term as Alaskaâs senior senator. She made the official announcement at the Williwaw restaurant in downtown Anchorage Friday.
âWeâve got a year in front of us, and I donât take anything for granted,â Murkowski said.
During the last election, Murkowski lost the Republican primary to Joe Miller, but ultimately succeeded in the general election through a write-in campaign. On Friday, the senator said this time, sheâs doing it âthe old-fashioned way.â
At least 100 supporters gathered at Williwaw for the announcement.
âShe does for Alaska what â collectively â the rest of us donât have access to, and she can do that in D.C.,â said former Alaska House Speaker Gail Phillips.
Murkowski has already raised about $2.4 million for the campaign, and has a total of nearly $3 million on-hand.
âSheâs ready for her strongest effort, and she ought to be,â said Forrest Nabor a professor of political science at the University of Alaska Anchorage. âI think sheâs going to be in for a dogfight no matter how things shake out.â

Please Alaska, Cantorize this witch
Here is yet another one that the GOPe pulled strings in order for her to remain in the Senate.
Old RINO’s never die....they don’t even fade away.
“Please Alaska, Cantorize this witch”
They did in 2010. Joe Miller defeated her in the Republican primary. But shw one the general election with a massive write in campaign.
“shw one”
I meant “she won”
It’s my seat! Daddy gave it to me! - Lisa Murkowski
She was caught unawares and beaten by a weak nobody Joe Miller last time, so theoretically, yes. She’ll be prepared this time though.
A nobody named Karen Perry is apparently running, she can’t do it. Miller is unlikely to be able to do it again should he chose to go again. Palin is a pipedream.
Conservative former Governor Sean Parnell (hey Alaskans how is that liberal swine who beat him treating you?) could do it , or a former LT Governor. I doubt any of those are likely to run though.
State Senator Mike Dunleavy was reported some months ago as considering it. Sounds like a decent choice.
The democrats don’t seem likely to put up a real candidate so this would a very rare instance were I would see myself advocating a third party bid in November if Murkowski is renominated. A 3-way race against Murkowski and a token dem is winnable, Miller almost did it in 2010 with Murkowski as a write in (tougher with her name actually on the ballot). With their recent history you’d have to figure the dems would try to pull some shi* though, either pull their nominee and replace them with Begich if they thought they had a chance to win or illegally vacate the ballot altogether (as they did in 2014 to defeat Parnell) so dems are free to vote for Murkowski.
For RINO hunters finding a VIABLE primary challenger for Murk should be a priority, I can’t be optimistic though.
John Hilstrand. He likes firing his AR from the bridge of the Time Bandit. Is he an Alaskan or just works there many months of the year?
Man would shake that Senate up. Lol
Time for Sarah Palin to help clean up the Senate.
Take her down!
Can Sarah find us someone?
Now, THAT would be great!
This is another one we need to burn. If we don't have a conservative challenger, this seat needs to go to the Democrat.
Playing political whip saw with traitors is the only way to get rid of traitors.
It needs to be made very clear to elected officials that when they turn traitor, they *WILL* lose their seat. One way or the other, this seat needs to be taken from her.
That reminds me of New York in 1970, when we elected a Senator solely on the Conservative Party ticket.
I would love to see Gov. Palin take her on — and she is known to hve a longstanding animosity towards the Murkowskis.
And you have nailed it with that. McConnell and Murkowski both need to go. I urged all Kentucky freepers to vote for the Democrat, because I knew rewarding McConnell would just encourage more treason from him.
Hmmm. I hadn't considered that, but when I look at the race closely, it will indeed probably be easier to beat Murkowski in November with a third party candidate (provided its a well known proven conservative politician) than in the GOP primary. And in November, she wouldn't be able to pull the "write-in" shenanigans she did last time around.
Probably the best case scenario is to weaken her in the primary and force her to spend all her money being renominated, then finish her off in November using a 1970 James Buckley type scenario with a real Republican on the ballot against a defacto RAT with an "R" next to her name and the token official RAT.
The biggest issue, as you noted, is the Dems would probably try to vacate the ballot and throw their support to Murkowski, if it looks like the real Republican is gaining in the polls.
Yes. I’m against 3rd parties normally but in certain situations where it’s actually a viable option, sure.
A more contemporary example besides 2010 Murkowski (though also a narrow loss) is 2009 special House election between super liberal RINO Dede Scuzzobama (selected for the GOP nom without having to face a primary), Doug Hoffman, and a democrat.
Dede dropped out (remained on the ballot though) and endorsed the dem, who narrowly won. Dede is officially a dem now as she was “offended” when the GOP rallied to Hoffman AFTER she dropped out, still waiting for an apology from Newt for endorsing her and getting pissy when conservatives told him to shove it.
Puke. I really hate all these Obama suckup RINO scumbags claim to be "moderate" and victims of intolerant right-wing "purists", then they show their true colors AFTER leaving office, and actively work to promote the further left-wing government they can.
Linc Chafee is another example "ooooh I'm not a liberal I'm a MODERATE who legislates from the CENTER -- but the mean right-wingers can't accept moderates in the party!!". Then the douchebag joins the RATs and campaigns to the LEFT of Hillary Clinton. Gee whiz, Linc, I thought you were "moderate" and didn't like "extremists".
Dede Scuzzy, Missing Linc Chaffee, Charlie Crist, the list goes on and on...
In Newt's case, its only bad to endorse a RINO if your name is "Rick Santorum" and President Bush twists your arm to do so because the RINO is the senior Senator from your own state. If your name is "Newt" and you wanna inject yourself into another state's primary and loudly promote the candidacy of a disgusting RINO pig, more the power to ya.
Similar rules for endorsing RINOs in Illinois. It's only bad to do so if your name is "Bill Brady". If your name is Jim Oberweis or Adam Andrejewski, knock yourself out.
A Conservative could run as a “Democrat” against her and then switch after the election, or just always vote Conservative, sort of an open secret the way the Democrats always seem to run SAYING Conservative things and identifying as Republican Conservatives, then, immediately when they get into office they reveal themselves through their actions. Somehow the Democrats seem to know that people are “really” going to be on their side no matter what they may say to get elected. How do they pull it off over and over? Nobody ever seems to go from saying they are a Democrat and suddenly they are voting Republican. Same for judges, etc. It almost seems it doesn’t matter what people SAY - you just have to wait and see what they DO.
