Politico has rewritten the headline, lede, and several portions of the text of an article accusing Ben Carson of "fabricating" part of his personal biography involving the Military Academy at West Point.
The story, bearing the byline of reporter Kyle Cheney, now omits the original version's declarations that Carson's statements were false or fraudulent, as seen in an archive of the article.

The original claim will be the one dominating the rounds. AP reporters have been caught fabricating facts, and the initial fabrication overpowers the correction 10 to 1.
They probably told Dr Carson that it would be a free ride and he, not knowing how the military academies work, thought it involved a scholarship.
It was most certainly an honor for them to show such interest in having him apply, and I’m sure he would have been a shoo-in if he had!
And they need to do a little more backtracking in the article...

There is nothing to apologize for. Carson is lying through his teeth. There’s more to come folks, lots more. The truth will out. Westmoreland’s widow’s statement; the Army’s statement; Carson’s own words in his autobiography and on Facebook. The knife stabbing and hammer to his mom’s head fabrications. There’s a whole world of exaggeration and Carson lies for the media and others to explore here, and they are all researching away this very moment. This is the beginning of the Carson fiasco, not the end.
Oh, and don’t forget the Pyramids used as grainaries and built by Joseph garbage.
Carson lied like hell when he said he was offered a “full scholarship”. He needs to explain why he thought it was necessary to embellish his record. Let me correct it.
