Politico has rewritten the headline, lede, and several portions of the text of an article accusing Ben Carson of "fabricating" part of his personal biography involving the Military Academy at West Point.
The story, bearing the byline of reporter Kyle Cheney, now omits the original version's declarations that Carson's statements were false or fraudulent, as seen in an archive of the article.

I am over his lie about the scholarship. I am not over that Carson attacked his mom or whomever with hammers, knives and rocks. That’s all we need to know. We do not need to wait 2 weeks to know he can’t be President. Carson is done.
It looks like a scholarship in return for military service, and clearly the Army/USMA used to advertise it as such. You would know that if you had looked at the link in the referenced post.
I am not interested in a parse-fest on appointment vs. scholarship. Excessive pedantry is unbecoming and uninteresting.
Candidate Carson or Comrade Politico. The choice is yours.
Thanks for the explanation. Yes, that is a high bar. I don’t know why laws that require proof of a subjective are even on the books.
He wrote it?
He just needs taken to the woodshed. He is a stupid child.
If I walked into a bar with a couple of friends and saw him working there, I'd say, "Uh, oh this is a fag bar. Let's get out of here."
But the damage is done. Just like the phony meme that Palin said she could see Russia from her house. Half the population still believes she said that.
No one is interested in a parse-fest on appointment vs. scholarship. It was Carson who brought up “scholarship” in his book and in interviews.
There are no scholarships at West Point. It is free training and a free education.
Yep.
The need to be summarily tarred, feathered and run into the oceans.
He brought it up most likely because that was the way it had been explained to him judging from school’s own materials on their tuition policy.
Ypu are right.
I have personal indirect experience with Dr. Carson.
He is a godly man.
And being quiet does not mean “weak”. Sick of that glib stupidity.
My point is, Trump commented about Carson based on a false article. I contend, that article was designed to setup Trump, knowing he would respond. By doing this, it strikes at both Carson and Trump, 1&2 in the polls.
Look at Rubio’s numbers. He is climbing. Here is the thing the Rovians are missing. Cruz takes Trump’s and a good chunk of Carson’s vote. This doesn’t help Rubio long term, it helps Cruz.
And I am good with that.
As I told you before, the Army/USMA advertised in print a West Point appointment as a “scholarship,” using that word, contemporaneously with Carson’s being told he would be a shoe-in for a slot. That you choose to ignore this fact when it has been clearly presented to you reflects poorly on you.
Keep pushing Carson being in the wrong somehow, despite that fact, and I put you in the same category as any number of Leftists Big Liars. It is a favorite technique they use regularly.
I don't know that they are "on the books," or merely customary. Upon some reflection, I don't think the principles articulated are a bad selection. They serve as a guideline for juries, particularly in instances in which "did they know it was false" is a gray area involving so much bias that the question wasn't at all investigated. Such a case indicates a failure to do due and customary diligence which essentially constitutes a damage of culpable negligence. So there does need to be some work done here, particularly with the proliferation of "news media" on the Internet. We can't all have credentials as "reporters" for example. I don't think anybody knows how that one is going to shake out.
Too bad things aren’t settled like men do by men instead of a bunch of pettifogging lawyering.
If the kid just got taken out back for a good beating he and the next guy might be a little more diligent about checking their stories and doctoring their facts.
Sorry, the law is mostly failing US from my perspective. Too watered down, too many conditions for right and wrong. It has become squishy like mud.
The kid did wrong and he needs to be punished and he needs to make personal restitution. How can there be any reasonable doubt of his guilt? There is that subjective again, “reasonable”.
I try to toe the mark and am not forgiving of others who fail to do the same. I have no mercy and don’t expect any and have never gotten any but from God.
No wonder he’s so vengeful. Poor Kyle fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every branch on the way down!
Happened to have your post open in another window. Thought you might find one of my posts on this of interest.

Not really. I like Trump, Cruz and Carson. I was just stating what I think happened and by whom.
This will go a long way to determining whether The Donald is "real" or just a media whore. If he apologies, not only will it show real character, it will allow him to publicize the lie perpetrated by the Left.
If he ignores the issue, then he's just an attention junkie who doesn't deserve anyone's support.
