In the first Iowa poll results since the third Republican debate, Ben Carson and Donald Trump are still running first and second while Ted Cruz has broken ahead of the remaining pack to third place.
The new poll by KBUR-AM in Burlington, Iowa, and Monmouth College in Illinois puts Cruz within striking distance of Trump.
Carson leads among likely Iowa caucus-goers at 28 percent, followed by Trump at 20 percent. Cruz is in third place at 15 percent, while Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush are nearly tied at 10 percent and 9 percent respectively.
This early in the race, poll watchers look at movement more than the actual numbers. But considering that the poll's margin of error is 3.37 percent, some see the 5 point difference between Cruz and Trump in first-in-the-nation Iowa as something of a breakthrough for the Texas U.S. senator.
"Ted Cruz is the only candidate who has improved his standing since the debate, doubling his percentage since the first KBUR-Monmouth College poll in June and about 5 points better than the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average and 6 points higher than the Huffington Post trend," said Robin Johnson, who hosts the "Talking Politics" radio show on KBUR. "Republican voters seem to be sorting the race down to five candidates as we move closer to caucus day on February 1."

It was in the middle of a battle which Ted Cruz and a few senators fought against the 'Gang of 8' amnesty bill. He offered an amendment to counteract pro-illegal immigration provisions of the amnesty bill.
I, and many people, are grateful that Ted Cruz led this fight. Otherwise, they would have approved amnesty already.

What is inaccurate about the chart?
So he was for it before he was against it? Ted knew the only chance to stop it was the vote to bring it to the floor, which needed a supermajority. The actual vote only needed a simple majority, so he knew he could vote against it an it would pass anyway. Same old game.
