Dr. Ben Carson and Donald Trump are tied at the top of the latest 2016 GOP Presidential poll released Friday night by NBC News.
With 26% each, Trump and Carson have the support of over half of the voters polled, an impressive feat in a crowded field.
According to Politico:
âDonald Trump and Ben Carson together command more than half of votersâ preference atop the Republican field after Wednesday nightâs debate, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz rose to third place in the latest national NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll released Friday evening.
In a survey of Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters, Trump and Carson both earned 26 percent, while Cruz took 10 percent. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio followed with 9 percent, trailed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (5 percent), Carly Fiorina (4 percent) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (all at 2 percent).â
The article notes poll respondents thought Cruz won the debate:
Cruzâs stronger showing could be in large part due to the 24 percent of the 1,226 Republicans and leaners who said that he did the best job at the CNBC debate, a larger share than any other candidate. Rubio finished close behind in that regard, with 20 percent. Asked who did the worst, 38 percent picked Bush.â

I can’t make sense of Caron’s numbers at all. I don’t want to send “Mr. Squishy” to negotiate with Putin or ME nutjobbers. I can’t imagine any conservative would. Certainly democrats or GOPe on the other hand....
Check out the enthusiasm and boisterous high spirits of this energetic and unexpectedly large crowd!
This upbeat response may be due in part to Dr. Carson's new, upbeat and inspiring campaign theme song, available here:
"Maxwell's Silver Hammer"
I had a thought. All this mystery movement to Carson? I wonder if the Trump supporters in part refuse to take part in polls. Particularly those from the network. Also, three of four polls showing Carson ahead in Iowa were from colleges, and covered the same period of time. Trump folks are more likely to be not prone to be interested in some whiny college kid on the phone, where as Carson’s folks might be more patient. The supporters are a reflection of the personality of their chosen candidate.
If Trump nukes Carson fairly soon (if he even has the means to do so), it will be interesting to see where Carson’s voters go. If they go to either Cruz or Rubio, then Trump may be sorry that he took Carson out so soon.
And here you guys said Trump was going to pull in the Reagan-crats and it turns out to be Carson who is doing it?
Massive!! Thank you for the post
TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP to TRIUMPH!!!
Bumping the best - TRUMP!
Tagline ....
I don’t think it’s a mystery at all. I believe that Walker’s voters went to Carson after Walker dropped out so that was worth maybe as much as 5 points. I also think that Trump lost some support when he attacked GWB over 9/11 and I don’t think evangelicals are into Trump. Evangelicals are more drawn to Carson, despite the fact that Trump claims “evangelicals love him”.
I don’t think poll methodology has anything to do with it, otherwise why would polls in the previous months favor Trump and recently the same polls with the same methodology favor Carson?
You mean, after the debate, anyone still gives NBC any credence at all?
Is "Who do you think will be the nominee?" the same as "Who are you for to be the nominee?" I venture that a lot of people who favor the lower ranked nominees think Trump has the best chance of winning, but that doesn't necessarily mean they favor him.
“In a survey of Republicans and Republican-leaning independent voters”
Not a terribly useful or meaningful sample set given that the primaries will be Republican-only votes except for those states that have open primaries.
I assume NBC wouldn’t have liked the results if they had included just Republican voters.
“I sure would like to see a Carson rally.”
He had one in Colorado right before the debate; I think he drew about 1,500 people.
“I donât think itâs a mystery at all. I believe that Walkerâs voters went to Carson after Walker dropped out so that was worth maybe as much as 5 points.”
Walker was down to 1% in the polls when he dropped out.
I suspect Trump is waiting until the right time to use his âopposition researchâ on Dr. Ben. Donât wait too long, Donald. Dr. Ben may be developing a dossier on you.
>>Is “Who do you think will be the nominee?” the same as “Who are you for to be the nominee?”<<
Nope, not the same at all. For example, there are a lot of people who think Bush will be the nominee because he’s the choice of the establishment and would answer “Bush” to the first question, even though they want someone else, which is why Bush got, what, 8 or 9% in that poll.
Trump has never been accused of being stupid. If you follow poll numbers history, Trump has been stable around 25, Cruz has been stable at 7, Rubio has gained, Bush, Kasich & FioRino have lost, and Carson has surged.
It is elementary Dr. Watson (to quote Sherlock Holmes) that Carson’s votes have come from Bush, Kasich & FioRino.
Speaking of Trump using his opposition research, I’ve been wondering if there is anything on Hillary Clinton that has not already been dug up. If there is I’m sure Trump will find it, but I doubt there’s anything that hasn’t been dug up already. Comments anyone?
Carson is a fine man, but he is not a street fighter. We need a street fighter to defeat Hillary and the rotten lowlife Democrats. In a debate he would let Hillary go unchallenged. She would eat him alive.
I see from your tagline you want Martinez for VP. I’d really like to see Dr. Carson consider her when he wins the nomination. That ticket would drive the Dems bonkers...
