In a panel discussion at the University of Colorado after the recent Republican debate, I was asked by a student why she should be a Republican. The question forced me to ask myself the same thing.
I gave the young woman the standard talking points
After much thought, I reluctantly concluded that the answer is âno.â The proudly socialist Democrats are full of passionate intensity, while the Republican leadership is full of pathetic excuses. After this weekâs House GOP âbudget deal,â which betrays nearly every promise made to grassroots conservatives since 2010, I have decided it is time to end my affiliation with the Republican Party.
Sadly, it has become obvious that the Republican establishment simply has no intention of ever fulfilling promises made in platforms and campaign speeches. To their mind, there are elections, and then there is âgoverning,â and governing to them means not messing with a gargantuan government on autopilot.
The Republican establishment does not want to control spending. It does not want to secure the borders or enforce immigration laws. It does not care about American sovereignty. It has no interest in ending the unaccountable and corrupt culture that has become a hallmark of official Washington. By insulting the grassroots, the GOP leadership has set upon a suicide mission. The problem is that failed leadership is allowing Obama to destroy the Constitution and take the whole country down the drain. Well, count me out.
The Boehner budget deal is the last straw, and enough is enough. I cannot any longer defend this transparently dishonest charade called the Republican Party.
What I will do instead is join the largest political group in the nation, unaffiliated Independents. In Colorado, they outnumber both âmajorâ political parties.

I forgot about that.
I remember in the last election I actually voted for someone I never dreamed I'd cast a vote for - Solid Commie Mike Honda. The deal was that his opponent's commercials (also, as you pointed out, a Democrat) convinced me that Mike Honda was an incompetent boob who had done virtually nothing in his tenure in office ... Hmmm, vote for a competent leftist, or vote for an incompetent leftist who does nothing (other than occasionally agitate me with his smug pronouncements)? Easy call...
But you are correct, voting in California (particularly in the Northern California Bay Area) is thin gruel for finding palatable candidates.
America desperately needs an opposition party to battle the commie ‘RATS. The GOP just isn’t up to doing the job. Americans need “boots on the ground” in the House and Senate to do battle against the communists. Americans need people in Congress who will “have our backs” instead of our backsides.
Elect Trump and then go all Article V on their asses.
Didn’t Tancredo run in the Constitution Party a few years ago ? So maybe he is an Independent now, or this is an old article ??
Some people would say your though process to your vote is why we ended up with someone FAR FAR WORSE named Obama...
Tom can stick a sock in it. I stop listening to him when he broke his pledge not to run for reelection way back when.

I left with McCain and his sh!tty campaign. Loves Palin, but he used her and threw her under several buses.
Awww hell no I will stay registered to rino party to screw with their primary. I am Republican in name only now for primaries only to screw with the primary to elect Cruz, Trump or Carson. GOPelites can go to hell and will in my opinion.
Republican in name only to vote in primaries
RINOTVIP
Dude’s awfully late to the party.
We now have the BI-PARTY (may as well call them what they want to be called, Bi-partisans. They can go to hell.
RIGHT! Because it is MUCH better when a REPUBLICAN votes to import illegal immigrants, take our money, ruin our health care, ban guns, and give away billions to hostile Islamic countries, then when a DEMOCRAT does it.
MUCCCCH better.
Here in MD, you must be registered as either R or D to vote in the respective primaries, which is the only reason I have yet to change to Independent.
You know Pharaohbama and his Egyptian slaves have some biblical plagues coming. Blood, frogs, bugs, wild animals,pestilence,boils,hail,locusts,....
Strangely enough no one I know of sat on their hands waiting for perfection but liberals do love trotting that horseXhit out to defend their CHOICE to elect liberals and shift the blame over the sheer hell THEY unleashed on their country, their families and the world at large.
That said, I actually did marry the perfect woman for me because I’m awesome like that, and smart enough to not waste am existential life choice in an act of lesser evil wedding idiocy.
That is why I have stopped supporting low taxes for the rich and for corporations. When they don’t pay so much they spend more. If they are going to sell out then they should shell out.
It was a low-level local position of little consequence. He ran unopposed. I know him personally and like him a great deal. He is a very, very fine man.
Still, that was a huge step for me. Until then, I pulled the lever for the R's, and if there wasn't one on the ballot, I refused to vote in that race.
So did you go number 1 or number 2?
