Washington (AFP) - The world would be a better place if dictators such as Saddam Hussein and Moamer Kadhafi were still in power, top Republican US presidential hopeful Donald Trump said in comments aired Sunday.
The billionaire real estate tycoon also told CNN's "State of the Union" talk show that the Middle East "blew up" around US President Barack Obama and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, his biggest Democratic rival in the race for the White House.

A few other things of note:
1. The Left hates the Iraq war, but still wants to be able to attack Trump on Saddam's human rights record?
2. This is a RARE photo of Trump with his mouth closed by the MSM.
No easier / cheaper way to make someone to look bad than use the photo of them with their mouth open speaking. About 90% of the MSM photos of Trump do this stunt.
It takes a savage to rein in savages.
I agree with him on that, and I don’t want to, because I cheered when the statue of Saddam came down.
I cheered when he got captured. And I watched his execution, but I don’t recall cheering that.
But now look what has become of all that.
This is a real mess, and we made it.
Damn.
Sad, but he’s right.
Brutal Muslim dictators have an excellent record of keeping the jihadist radical Islamists under control. Osama Bin Laden fled to Afghanistan where Taliban was ruling, a radical Muslim regime.
American military can conquer any Muslim country, and de-throne the non-jihadi dictators (Saddam, Qaddafi, Mubarak) but it is done on China credit card, and American public will never go for multiple decades long occupation, with constant killing of our soldiers by radical islamists.
I suppose so. Appendicitis at least keeps the poisons cooped up. We’ve managed to burst the containment and are seeing the poison invade the body.
But sooner or later, the appendage has to come out.
The dumbest idea was to go to Iraq and overthrow Saddam
The second dumbest idea was to pull out
Seven years ago I would not have agreed with him on that. But after 6+ years of seeing Obama screw things up so bad he is right.
When you find yourself in a hole -— stop digging.
I wanted the US to go in and take the oil.
Trump is right.
Sad to say, there are some societies that are so fragmented/Balkanized (like obozo is trying to make this one!) that it takes a strong man to keep the lid on. Not all nations will or even CAN embrace the system we have here and obozo is attempting to destroy (so HE can become the strong man/dictator?).
In 1939, FDR — that hero of the left — remarked about Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza that “He may be a SOB but he’s OUR SOB!”
There ya’ go!
Obama blew both not Bush.
I agree...
Kaddafi, yes - Libya is a tough place and he alone could have kept it under control and I have seen nothing that he was helping AQ.
Saddam had to go. He was a major player in supporting anti-American and anti-Israel terrorist groups. He is the one who paid Palestinian mothers $10,000 for each child who became a suicide bomber - Iraq was a safe haven for terrorists of any stripe.
He's right.
Again
He’s right. Their religion doesn’t allow for democracy. Iraq was mostly a secular country keeping Iran in check. Why did we want to change that?
You said...
“I wanted the US to go in and take the oil.”
I would rather see the US do that than nation build there
However, I do not agree 100% with what he says.
Saddam needed to have his head served to his sons on a platter, and same with the Libyan tyrant.
Blow up an airliner, die. Simple, really.
Harbor terrorists and declare 25 mil for reward for terrorism? Die. No mess, no fuss, step right up.
Our tar baby was when Prez Bush decided we could "tame" them into a democracy.
.Should have blown them up real good, then left, leaving a card that if you wish some more of this, speak up.
When Trump is prez, he will see the light (one can only hope). They all do. The question is what will they do with it?
Hate to say it, but Colin Powell was right when he said, “you break it, you own it” regarding toppling Sadam Hussein.
Once we got into Iraq our soliders were killed by IED’s from Iran, even while Bush 43 was in power. Nothing was done.
Priorities were wrong after 9/11 with Pakistan that created the Taliban and put then into power in Afghanistan ignored as well as Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of the terrorist ideology of Bin Laden.
