"He would have been the last person in New York City I would've wanted to see in the diversion program," Police Commissioner William Bratton said.

The judge's apology should have been accompanied by an announcement of her resignation. Yeah, I know I'm dreaming. No one does that anymore.

But will she learn from this drastic mistake? I doubt it.

From my understanding, NY has a law which prohibits potential danger to the public from being considered in bond and diversion hearings. If true, I doubt the judge did anything wrong.

I’m sure her regret is a great comfort to the cop’s friends and family. But I suspect theirs is greater.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Patricia Nuñez

It's okay Patricia. You're a wise latina and that makes it all better.

I would prefer seeing her charged with gross incompetence.

Because that’s what it is, she deliberately let a menace walk, despite ample warnings from the cops and prosecution. And sue her ass off.

This inept judge has got blood on her hands.

Actions need consequences. These scumbags judges are destroying America. There must be retribution

The judges seem to think that the purpose of the criminal justice system is to “help” the criminal rather then helping non-criminals by removing the dangerous from society.

She should be stripped of judicial immunity and allow a suit against her.

I think the Judge should stand trial with the perp as an accomplice, her piss poor judgement aided this murdering thug.

Not that it would ever happen but that would be Justice!

Judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and POLITICIANS should all be held accountable for turning criminals back out on the street.

Aren’t judges in New York elected? Bet she wins reelection in landslide, and anyone who brings up her “Willy Horton” moment will be tarred as a racist.

Just the usual games that lawyers - legislators, defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges - recklessly play with each other as their actions endanger the lives of innocent people everywhere.

Wow. Blaming a judge for a defendants killing of a cop months after a court disposition. This is the stupidest thread today. Why not go after the McDonald’s counter girl who sold him a Big Mac the day before or the manufacturer of the toilet he used to take a shit in or the subway conducter who brought him uptown? Th hate the members of this board have against the judiciary is amazing. What did the judge do wrong, get notice he was going to kill a cop?????

Here's the money quote from the reader comments:

Truth is the Black experiment has failed not only the president but Blacks in general. Not because of white culture, or white privilege, or white racism. The fundamental problem is that American black culture has evolved into an un-fixable and crime ridden mess. They do not want to change their culture or society, and expect others to tolerate their violence and amoral behavior. They have become socially incompatible with other races by their own design, not because of the racism of others - but by their own hatred of non-blacks. They don't understand that white people aren't out to get black people; they are just exhausted with them. They are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, and the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, the excuses, and the reflexive animosity.

This is exactly why we have legalized abortion in this country, and why Planned Parenthood is permitted to butcher unborn babies and sell their body parts with impunity. Margaret Sanger was already "exhausted" decades ago when she founded that organization to deal with these people.

At 30, Howard has been arrested more than two dozen times since he was 13 and sentenced to state prison twice since 2007 for drug possession and sale. One term came after he tried unsuccessfully for drug court in a 2011 case charging him with smoking PCP while carrying 22 bags of crack cocaine. Howard eventually pleaded guilty to drug possession.

And to think there are idiots out there who think people are incarcerated for their first drug offense.
