Exclusive: Paul Ryan Sold House Freedom Caucus a Bill of Goods in Private Meeting on Capitol Hill
Breitbart ^ | 10/21/2015 | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 10/21/2015 7:57:49 PM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

In the private meeting inside the House Ways and Means Committee hearing room in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) promised the House Freedom Caucus the world to try to earn their official endorsement. He failed.

Among the things that Ryan promised the members were a return to regular order, changes to the steering committee that decides committee assignments centralizing power in the Speaker’s office—Ryan even promised to give up the Speaker’s five votes on the committee—and an end to retaliation against Republican members who vote their conscience.

He reiterated his promise made in the full GOP conference on Tuesday of no amnesty bill under President Obama—which conspicuously did not extend to the next president—and an end to crisis-to-crisis governance under outgoing Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH). He also promised more “regional representation” rather than representation centralized in the Speaker’s office.

Besides, what good is a Republican majority when they take their direction from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi? That is essentially why Republicans lost the majorities they had with Bush. There are almost no conservatives in DC, no matter how many we send there.

You have to realize that all these “principled conservatives” are typically single-issue voters who either focus on one issue or reject anyone who disagrees with one issue.

The liberals got their power by degrees. We won’t take it all away at once.

Looks like this is a done deal.........

Won’t take long to see if he lied to HFC. If he sticks to what he told them, then it will be some welcome change from Butthead Boner.

You seem to think something extraordinary is going on that will cause your scenario of MASS under-voting unparalleled in American electoral history that could create your kooky scenario of MASSIVE democrat gains in Congress despite them losing the Presidency. I assure you nothing that extraordinary is going on. I guess you’re gonna be in for a surprise when over half of those Senate races aren’t even closely contested.

You and other people who might be inclined to vote for Trump and leave the rest of the ballot blank are not representative of the American people, most Republican voters, most conservatives, or dare I suggest even most freepers. Most Republican voters will be voting....Republican. And most swing voters don’t know who the congressional leaders you dislike so much even are. I doubt the this current Speakership fracas will have an appreciable effect on the election.

Back to reality now, Hillary could win by 20 points (and worst-case I have trouble seeing her win by more than 10) and the odds aren’t much worse that you will win the big lotto jackpot than the odds of the democrats gaining 19 Senate seats.

Change that to a Trump/whoever victory of 1 point and I’d say that maybe the odds are better that everyone posting on this thread will hit the jackpot along with all their brothers and sisters than of the democrats gaining 19 Senate seats. I’m no math genius so maybe my estimate there is off but bottom line, not possible, this according to any voting patterns in the history of this country or any other.

Talk radio fans intense feelings about the current Republican congressional leaders is not a force so strong that it will come remotely close to radically altering the course of human events to the preposterous level you suggest.

And as for “what difference does it make”, if you don’t see ANY difference between the current Congress and a 2/3+ democrat Congress, I don’t even know what to tell you. That Congress would impeach and remove Trump and his Vice President on charges of “racism” or something and make Pelosi President. THAT Congress would end this country.

Your question is exactly the point I’m making here. No one inside Washington DC should be trusted. Not Ryan, not Cruz, not anyone. We’ve had our trust broken too many times by too many people using the same promises we’re hearing now to buy those promises again.

I disagree that we ‘eat our own’ as you said. We elect people who say “I will go to Washington DC and represent conservative values” more than 95%+ of the time, they don’t. And that percentage drops the longer they stay there. So they’re campaigning as conservatives but governing (in many respects, not all respects) as liberals. So our disgust with them not so much ‘eating our own’ as it is holding our congressmen to their words.

Contrast that to the Democrats who send people to Washington that never, ever compromise on their core values. It’s easy for a Dem voter to keep a Dem representative. By and large they vote how they campaign.

I suspect a large portion of Trump’s support stems from that exact feeling - the feeling that he will actually do what he says he’s going to do. My girlfriend HATES Trump. HATES him. The other day I asked her if she believed he would do what he says (build the wall, deport illegals, tax plan etc..) she said “without question”.

Imagine that, support for a Republican candidate based not on promises but on the belief that they’ll actually govern as they campaigned. As a 46 year old who was too young to vote for Reagan, this will be the first time in my life that I’d be able to pull the lever with that belief.

If you will look back at elections including POTUS, coattails are a force to reckon with.

If Trump gets the nomination, he would be dumb to keep trying to differentiate from GOP. He’s smart, he won’t and coattails will be significant.

You can keep seeing only dire straits and looking the gift horse in its mouth, but pessimism never works in your favor.

Fine, then they should tell Ryan what and how he can do to himself. He is bad news.

” But I am seeing the “He lied to us” mantra is being started up already, and no Speaker election has taken place.

Broken record playing again. “

If this transpires, they can all go to hell. Every last one on of these “so-called” conservatives can go to hell.

“Mark Levin also mentioned on his show yesterday that he felt Newt Gingrich or Allen West would make good candidates for the job,”

LOL....this conclusively proves that Levin has no street brains whatsoever. I don’t need to explain WHY do I ?

It doesn’t take mass undervoting, just a few per cents. I pray tht Trump wins. He is the only one who seems to have what it takes to deal with a Democrat, or even a Gope Congress bent on ushering in the Total State.

RE:”Mark Levin also mentioned on his show yesterday that he felt Newt Gingrich or Allen West would make good candidates for the job, and definitely NOT Ryan. “

Good meaning 10 votes? I gotta try to stay on the planet Earth rather than that Oz land;

Exactly my point over and over Wednesday night.

I notice that Cruz is silent on this. Yet on passing budgets and debt limit he jumped over and over in the house telling them what to do, taking credit for Boehner leaving. But nothing on this.

Is he going to stay silent on this then if Ryan makes it in he will act shocked when Ryan does whatever is needed to keep the government open? Which we all know the next Speaker will do.

That is the Talk radio Kabuki dance
