In the private meeting inside the House Ways and Means Committee hearing room in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon, chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) promised the House Freedom Caucus the world to try to earn their official endorsement. He failed.
Among the things that Ryan promised the members were a return to regular order, changes to the steering committee that decides committee assignments centralizing power in the Speakers officeRyan even promised to give up the Speakers five votes on the committeeand an end to retaliation against Republican members who vote their conscience.
He reiterated his promise made in the full GOP conference on Tuesday of no amnesty bill under President Obamawhich conspicuously did not extend to the next presidentand an end to crisis-to-crisis governance under outgoing Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH). He also promised more regional representation rather than representation centralized in the Speakers office.

Paul Ryano speaks with forked tongue.
The Gop will die very quickly.
“It remains to be seen what happens next, but Politico is reporting that Ryan may move forward with a Speakership bidmeaning his first move after the Freedom Caucus withheld an endorsement of him would be breaking a promise to them. Will they believe him on everything else he told them in that room?”
His spokesman says he won’t move forward without their endorsement, so good—he’s painted himself into a corner.
Mr. Ryan had said he would only take the speakers job if Congress eliminated the power to oust the speaker mid-session something Rep. Raul Labrador, Idaho Republican, said would undermine the checks and balances that have been in the system since Thomas Jefferson first wrote the parliamentary rule book.
Thats something thats in the Jeffersons rules. This is something that if its good enough for Jefferson, its got to be good enough for Paul Ryan, Mr. Labrador said.
Known as the motion to vacate the chair, the parliamentary maneuver in question is a way for insurgents to topple their chief similar to a vote of no confidence in parliamentary systems.
Such a motion was part of the trouble faced by Mr. Boehner, who is retiring amid intense dissatisfaction from conservative Republicans.
And Why Not The “Free Republic Party??”
We are after all not savages like the Democrats...
And we Live in a Republic...
NOT a Democracy!!!
There are many here who wouldn’t recognize that they won even when it happens. What the heck more do you all want? Ryan has promised to reverse everything the conservatives complained about under Boehner, plus he promised NO amnesty. And you are all still sniveling and threatening to take your marbles home. This is the death knell of this once, great nation.
Bulloney....on the Dims take back the house...
People who want to challenge Ryan’s “demands” need to find a doable alternative to going along with Ryan. Without an alternative candidate that can be elected, Ryan will be more or less calling the shots. It’s a thorny problem.
If Trump wins his coat tails will keep the house republican, whether they deserve it or not.
Has that action ever been used?
No
Trump has carefully removed himself from the scum like Ryan .
Lots of split voting .
is this the best the GOP has? A guy who lost a debate to that idiot biden!!!!
Arent these guys the Cruz house caucus who got Boehner to shut down the government for 2 weeks to force him to repeal Obamacare ??
The Freedom heroes as Rush and Levin called them?
(or was that another house group??)
Then why the hell would they support Ryan just to whine about him later?
Ryan said he would walk away without their support.
Well ...??? Let him.
I hope this whining doesn't continue for another two+ years.
Why isn't Ted Cruz over there stiffening their backbones??
Jeeze....this sounds so ridiculous now
Yes...
And the other turncoats joined in...
All on the record so we have a trail..
Your statement is not a credit to Paul RINO. Rather it is an example of how the Beltway fake conservatives are constantly raising money by pretending to hate RINOs and yet never coming up with any credible challenges to them.
FreedomWorks, Tea Party Patriots and Club for Growth are only some of the deceitful groups that pocket millions while never doing anything productive in return. Ditto for most of the politicians there as well.
That is literally impossible. The only way the democrats can win the House is if Hillary wins by a wide margin, bigger than Obama's 2012 margin which wasn't nearly enough to give him back the House.
For all you Ryan bashers, where are your more conservative boys? You know where? They couldn’t get elected or hold on to their seats in Congress, is where. Ryan did, and is probably the best were going to get. Don’t like that? Welcome to reality, the House is not dominated by conservatives.
I wouild think the bad feeling is a lack of faith in the words of Paul Ryan.
I don’t think Donald Trump will let that happen. His campaign will be a total campaign. Once he has the reigns of the GOP he will quickly get the Congressional and Senatorial races in shape. Everywhere he goes, he meets with the local Congressman.
