Canadian dollar falls after Liberals projected to win election

The Canadian dollar fell as Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party was set to win the most seats in Monday’s national election, ending Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s decade-long rule.

Canada’s three major broadcasters -- CTV, CBC and Global News -- projected a Liberal win, while saying it was too early to predict whether the party would have enough seats for a majority government. The benchmark 10-year government bond gained 12 cents to $107.12 (Canadian), pushing the security’s yield down one basis point to 1.46 per cent. The currency weakened versus 15 of 16 major peers in the Asian trading session.

Trudeau campaigned on a plan that included running $25 billion in deficits over three years to stimulate the economy with infrastructure spending, while increasing taxes on top earners and cutting them for the middle class.

Starting with Justin’s father, the Lieberals brought in immigrants from turd-world (and third-world) hellholes, rather than SKILLED workers. We now have millions of ‘gibs-me-dats’ that figure the ‘crackas’ owe them a living because the came from said turd world hellholes.

Your ‘gibs-me-dats’ are mostly home grown, we import them, just as stupid as the Euroweenies.

Canada goes left, America going right, Loonie down, Seahawks losing...the natural order is returning. Sadly for Canada.

Thanks to Obama, the US is taking in more than its share of foreign born gibmedats on top of our homegrown ones.

It was already dropping lately, but took a sharper drop tonight. It wasn’t long ago that the Loonie was worth more than the greenback.

Justin Trudeau is an inexperienced, dope-smoking idiot.

Let the pandering to the Muslims begin!

This will be b-a-d.

It never fails, socialists always screw up things and gum up the works. This is a historical proven fact. And when ignorant conservatives get in on the act by reaching across the isle it gets even worse.

Not really. It’s been very near the same for days. The northeastern liberal import interest propaganda might make it fluctuate, but eventually, the loonie will continue to follow oil back up. Most likely, within the next year, oil will go up and not go down noticeably again in any of our lifetimes.

Canada is a net energy commodities exporter. The U.S.A. is not—not even close.

It will continue to fall if Junior Trudeau has his way.

In the U.S., our balance of payments deficits and national debt are beyond obscene. Depending on us to continue buying much for long would not be wise. We won’t be able to do it. For now, we’re running much on recirculating debt and central bank tricks.

Hopefully, Canada will lean toward being more economically self-sufficient and focus on selling necessities (like oil, food, etc.) and products manufactured from Canadian natural resources (e.g., wood) to people in the U.S. Down here, bond collapse, repudiations of debt and austerity measures are in our near future. Services and luxuries won’t be so big here then.

There might be hundreds of millions of new transportation vehicle drivers in developing countries (China, India and quite a few others) in the years to come. Enormous numbers of vehicles are being produced by and for them. Very bad time for politicians to hurt oil production with more regulations and taxes. Producers might take attitudes and make higher demands before returning to an area that bit them, because with fewer oil resources, oil prices will be even higher.

It really sucks to be Canadian today. We could lament Obama’s destruction of our southern neighbour from the relative safety of Harper’s ten years of conservatism. He did some fantastic things for Canadians, from income splitting to tax-free savings accounts to overturning the hated and useless gun registry. But all that ended today. Canadians have spoken and the future they see in in the public sector expansion and government intrusion. If you thought Obama was an idiot, wait till you see the utter moron we now have for a Prime minister. He might even make you feel proud of Obama’s intellectual gifts.

I just finished Aaron Clarey’s book “Enjoy the Decline” as a way to disengage from politics for a while and just enjoy life. It’s clear that the electorate of America and Canada have spoken, and socialism is what they want. The sponges outnumber the productive classes so any hope we have of electing adults who could arrest the slide down is unrealistic.

"The currency weakened versus 15 of 16 major peers in the Asian trading session."

It trades around the clock vs. the USD, and it's been around 1.30 for days (up and down near 77 cents American). Ontario and northeastern U.S. interests are always trying to push the loonie down. Ontario liberals want to sell more to northeastern U.S. importers, and northeastern U.S. importers want lower prices on those imports.

The U.S. national debt is a monstrous bubble. U.S. personal debts are a monstrous bubble. Real U.S. unemployment is horribly and unprecedentedly high. The end of the world has been one of America's favorite topics for a long time with the collapsing economy being the main consideration. Our national debt amount has been artificially kept at the same amount for a long time with de facto repudiations of pension fund debts (shifting of funds in records).

If you think that is bad, just wait until we feel the “Bern” here in the US. It will make your guy look conservative in comparison, and Barack Obama will be “the good old days” as bad as they have been here...

But I want to go to the authentic Canadian market instead of the tourist trap. More pesos...er, loonies to the dollar there. Might even detour to see one of the fine, young ladies there.

We are prohibited by law from exporting crude oil. We do export refined petroleum products, and can export LNG and coal as well. (If we can get the coastal states to let us load the ahips, that is).
