House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi signaled Saturday there could be an openness among at least some House Democrats to voting for a Republican speaker on the floor and she suggested the GOP turmoil could help put Democrats back in charge come 2017.
I think in our caucus there is interest and support. Theres an openness to a bipartisan approach to this, Pelosi said in an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival.
Pelosi stopped short of endorsing by name any particular Republican for speaker.
Do you want him to be totally destroyed in his caucus if I mentioned who I thought would be good? Pelosi said when asked by the Texas Tribunes Abby Livingston about the prospects of her casting a vote for a Republican speaker. That would be the end of him.
Pelosi also indicated that her caucus would have thwarted a bid by House conservatives to oust Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, should they have brought up a motion to vacate the chair.
Boehners eventual announcement of his intent to resign at the end of October rendered those discussions moot, but until that point, members of the House Freedom Caucus were counting on Democrats voting present, or even in favor of Pelosi, as a way of keeping Boehner from getting the 218 votes he needed to keep his gavel.
As conservatives drew nearer to forcing the crucial vote on the House floor, Democrats stayed silent on what their strategy would be whether they would help protect Boehner from an insurrection or sit back and watch the Republican Conference implode. Pelosis statement Saturday was the first indication of what Democrats might have done in that situation.

The GOPe probably thinks this kind of “bipartisanship” makes them look good.
The fact that Pelosi spews this kind of ridiculousness with a straight face, as if there are republican voters who will take her seriously, is more proof that there really is only one political party.
Uh, no thanks, Nasty.
Sure Pelosi, we know you really want to help the Republicans. This is probably the only time you will “reach across the aisle” and I’ll bet the establishment Republicans look forward to your input. NO THANKS!!
Republican answer.
Thanks for the offer nancy but we can screw it up by ourselves. We don’t need your help.
“and she suggested the GOP turmoil could help put Democrats back in charge come 2017.”
The democrats have never stopped being in charge since Boehner assumed the gavel.
OH I BET SHE WOULD!!! as if we need her help...she’s one of them that got us to this point...her and her:”can’t know what’s in it till you vote on it” b.s.!!!
It must be close to Halloween, I see witches everywhere. Hitlery, Pe-lousey , abortion Barbi, Faux Squaw warren, Babs “i’m not a sixth grader” Boxer and don’t call me mam Die Fido. Stay away from candy houses, apples from kindly old hags, and spinning wheels. I’m pretty sure that each of them weighs the same as duck and uses their broom for something other than cleaning.
The entire democrat element is deranged sick !!
If I was, I'd be ashamed to admit to being a democrat
I’m sure the Democrats would love to elect the Speaker.
But you can ESAD, if you please.
A lot of Republicans around the country are liberal plants.
I believe there were MULTIPLE reports of peeeelosi
helping Boner to stay on as speaker-
So... she is just making sure ALL of the RINO’s
know WHO REALLY runs the congress-
the congressional GOP-e is a fetid swamp
And Boner might give it to her.
This kind of thing has happened before at the state level. The minority democrats help some weak republican become Speaker in exchange for committee chairmanships, etc., and actually then control the agenda. Nancy has found her Quisling(s) in the establishment GOP, and she may soon be de-facto speaker of the house. There are just too many Republicans with no core beliefs or loyalty to the people who elected them. Because of John Boehner’s weakness and stupidity in the first place with his failure to represent the conservative majority, the people who are the reason he is Speaker, I feared at some point something like this might happen. It may even be furious conservatives who are making the devil’s deal with Nancy Pelosi. At this point, I almost don’t care who runs things in the house or the senate, the Republican leadership is perfectly awful in both houses. I just want the treacherous GOPe, Boehner, McConnell, et al, gone, punished for their dishonesty and their corruption. Let God punish the democrats, His wrath is far greater than the Republican base voters, and we are plenty angry, which has manifested itself in the form of the improbable Donald Trump who is, improbably, going to go to the White House unless somebody makes good on those threats against his life.
It’s also how Willie Brown became Speaker in California.
The GOPe needs to be destroyed.
If Ryan gets Democrat votes, he’s a dead man walking from his first day in the job.
