During World War II, 30,000 Jewish partisans fought in Eastern Europe, in their own combat units. In Western Europe, where anti-semitism among the conquered gentile population was less severe, Jews were able to participate as individuals in the national resistance, rather than having to fight in separate units. For example, in France, Jews amounted to less than one percent of French population, but comprised about 15 to 20 percent of the French Resistance. One of the most successful battles of the Jewish resistance was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Nearly every Jew who participated was eventually killed — but they were going to be killed anyway. By choosing to stand and fight, the Warsaw Jews diverted a significant amount of Nazis resources from battlefields elsewhere, thus hastening the Nazi defeat.

Before the war, about 10 percent of Poland’s population was Jewish. In the Middle Ages, Poland had been a welcoming, tolerant and free nation, and many Jews emigrated there. But when Poland regained its independence in 1919, thanks to the Versailles Treaty, the nation degenerated into military dictatorship, and much of the population was antisemitic.
The Nazis took most of Poland in September 1939, but according to the terms of the Hitler-Stalin pact, the Soviet Union was allowed to take the eastern third of the nation. After the June 1941 German invasion of the U.S.S.R., all of Poland fell under German control.

Some Jews survived the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. Their story is the most compelling part of the film “Shoah.”
I haven’t seen Shoah, but I’m trying to locate it on Netflix and my local libraries. Thanks for the tip.
We should pay very close attention to this so that we are prepared in case the hideously similar Agenda 21 is implemented.
It’s nine hours long! The last hour or two is about the Ghetto. We have Netflix but can’t rent it “live streaming.” Only on discs and we don’t have that option. Netflix, in other words, SUCKS!

I just checked Amazon and it doesn’t mention the Warsaw Ghetto section that I remember. Now I’m worried it was from another documentary that I watched many years ago. I still think it’s included in the movie but if not, please accept my apologies if I misled you. It’s a good movie, anyway, but very difficult to listen to the testimony. There is no archival film footage, only interviews.

ADL National Director Jonathan Greenblatt said that Carson “has a right to his views on gun control, but the notion that Hitler’s gun-control policy contributed to the Holocaust is historically inaccurate … gun control did not cause the Holocaust; Nazism and anti-Semitism did.”
Carson dismissed the ADL statement in an interview on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday.
“That’s total foolishness,” Carson told George Stephanopoulos. “It is well known that in many places where tyranny has taken over, they first disarm the people.”
No more than any other European country, just another lame attempt to paint all Poles as anti-semitic.
Also, “Exodus” has a wonderful section on the Ghetto. There is also another book called “The Wall” that tells the story. I believe “The Wall” became a B’way play decades ago.
If you ever want to read a story of inspirational, dauntless courage, read “Mila 18.” These were people who would storm the ramparts of Hell armed with nothing more than pointed sticks. Hitler ended up having to send in an SS Panzer division to root them out and leveled building after building to do it. Those Panzers were sorely needed elsewhere and the determined resistance kept them pinned down in Warsaw instead.
When my time comes, if I can die with one tenth the courage the weakest of these people showed, I’ll count myself a brave man.

It was basically two training battalions of Waffen SS who were stationed nearby, along with a few hundred other odds and ends. About 2000 men total. The Germans suffered 17 dead and 94 wounded. On the Jewish side, there were about 13,000 dead and 56,000 survivors shipped off to the death camps.
This is a very interesting read and it even more emphasizes how weak and small minded the nature of comedian Seth Rogan’s rude and profane filled response to Ben Carson’s comments on the Jews and Nazi Germany’s gun control laws was.
A pretty good fictional, but generally accurate, account is the movie Uprising with Leelee Sobieski, Hank Azaria and several more. One of my heroes in life is "the lady on the roof". If you watch the movie you'll know who I mean.
I don’t know if the uprising diverted that many troops. Two training battalions of SS troops, some SS MPs, a few Wehrmacht regulars and engineers, and some Polish and Ukrainian askaris and police — about 2000 men all told, many of which weren’t front-line troops to begin with.
