Also, “Exodus” has a wonderful section on the Ghetto. There is also another book called “The Wall” that tells the story. I believe “The Wall” became a B’way play decades ago.
If you ever want to read a story of inspirational, dauntless courage, read “Mila 18.” These were people who would storm the ramparts of Hell armed with nothing more than pointed sticks. Hitler ended up having to send in an SS Panzer division to root them out and leveled building after building to do it. Those Panzers were sorely needed elsewhere and the determined resistance kept them pinned down in Warsaw instead.
When my time comes, if I can die with one tenth the courage the weakest of these people showed, I’ll count myself a brave man.
I’ve read Mila 18 and while it is a nice read, it is fiction especially in the anti-semitism described pre-WWII
