FULL TITLE: BOOM ! Trump Dominates Amid Republican Primary Voters CBS Poll: Trump Is The Most Electable Candidate
CBS has another National Poll reflecting Donald Trump with a substantive lead over the entire field of GOP candidates (Full Poll pdf below). However, beyond the leading support numbers Republican Primary Voters were asked this question:
Q17. Regardless of how you intend to vote in 2016, which one of these Republican presidential candidates do you think has the best chance of winning the general election in November 2016?
( FULL POLL DATA ) ( FULL POLL DATA )
BOOM !! That essential and critical question/answer destroys the GOPe (establishment) talking point of electability. By a stunning margin the Republican Primary Voter view Donald Trump as the best candidate to win in 2016. Stick that in your pipe George Will and Karl Rove!
The more general question of who do you support in the primary reveals a rather interesting dynamic when contrast against the question above.
Less people think Ben Carson can win in November of 2016 than currently support him in the primary. (This shows a VERY weak quishy support base) More people think Rubio, Bush and Fiorina could win in November 2016 than currently support them in the primary. (The Hold Your Nose Coalition) However, a significant number think Donald Trump is uniquely positioned to win in the general election November 16, BEYOND their primary support. Heres the customary who do you support question responses:

they polled me for this.
said I supported Cruz but thought Trump would win.
This can’t be right. Marco Rubio said so.
Well, since Trump can pull up to 25% of Democrats who voted for Obama, and nobody else can pull any, YOU do the math...
John McCain and Mitt Romney were most electable too.
But, but, but Fox News...
says who?
Pretty much every poll at the time.
¡Ay, caramba
Now just watch the GOPe lower the BOOM on Trump. After last year’s Mississippi primaries, we now know they are even more vicious than the Democrats.
This could be fun. Or tragic.
I will never EVER vote for a lying liberal bottom feeder like Trump.
actually, the term “most electable” is chicken vs. egg.
Which came first, the GOPe/MEDIA drumbeat or the polls?
No other GOP candidate can deliver that mandate. I'm not sure very much will change overall if we get elected the typical Republican (i.e. Rubio) in a squeaker. Most likely however, a Rubio will lose just like Mitt Romney before him. And as much as we love Ted Cruz here (and I like him too), he only appeals to the conservative base - which we all know will not be enough to carry a general election. Perhaps a Trump Administration will soften the path for a Ted Cruz later on. Cruz is only 44, he'll have other chances.
Then you’ll happily vote for Sanders or Clinton because they aren’t lying liberal bottom feeders. Thank you so much.
Gee how many times to you think I’ve heard than in my years at FR?
LOL
liberal or conservative, every pol will tell you what you want to hear. IMO, the only ones likely to follow through on their rhetoric are: Cruz, Trump, Sanders, and perhaps Jindal.
While I would agree with you, these poll results will probably tighten the sphincters of the GOPe even more, who at this point in the cycle (i.e., pre-state runs) were planning on a much, much smoother ride for their chosen candidate Jeb.
Obama: I Don't Think Trump Will 'End up Being President'
Who you going to believe, some poll or our Dear Leader!
Do you have a link? All I remember is the GOPe claiming Romney was electable.
This looks like a combination white flag and warning flare to me. The Ruling Class is no longer at the helm of this election.
Pro-establishment candidates tend to get helped by such polls, and Trump is too much of a loose cannon aboard the SS Ruling Class.
Not only contrary toward their agenda, he’s so unpredictable when anyone predicts his demise [actually predictably successful] that I doubt they would tweak anything that boosts him even more.
