On Friday, a 37-year-old Army major with two children is likely to become the third woman ever to graduate from the Army's grueling Ranger School, according to three people with knowledge of her status, including a senior official.
Maj. Lisa Peplinski Jaster would join Capt. Kristen Griest, 26, and 1st Lt. Shaye Haver, 25, as the only three women to graduate from the school, which is considered among the most difficult in the military. It was opened to women for the first time in April as part of the military's ongoing research on how female service members should be integrated into new jobs in the armed forces.
Griest and Haver graduated from the school on Aug. 21, making history as the first women to ever complete the course's requirements. Jaster was the only other woman among 19 who began the course with Griest and Haver to make it to the school's second phase in the mountains of northern Georgia, but she was held back from graduating earlier this year.
Jaster, who lives in the Houston area, is a member of the Army Reserve who opted to attempt Ranger School when the service opened it to women this year. She overcame a major obstacle by completing a patrolling test in the last few days, the senior official said. He spoke on the condition of anonymity because the results are not yet final.
"She still hasn't completed all of the requirements," the official said. "But what are her odds of graduating now? They're really, really good."

Was It Fixed? Army General Told Subordinates: 'A Woman Will Graduate Ranger School,' Sources Say
37 year old woman with 2 kids? Yeah, right...
Thirty years ago....you might have been right. I’d say with the current physical fitness enthusiasm that some people (probably ten-percent of the female force)...they can handle most of the physical requirements. I do agree....the seventy-pound backpacks might be an issue...but there were guys who weighed 150 pounds and could barely perform at the level required.
It’s not the military of the 1970s anymore....look at the post/base gym operations. They spend tons of money on equipment and they produce real results.
At 37 getting through anything like Ranger school is an accomplishment for any one.
If they are not going into combat, I am not sure WHY anyone should be going through the school. Isn’t that the point?
I understand leadership and specialized skill sets are important. But do we have the budgets for “feel good” training?
I am not nor have I been ever in the military. Take away her gender... isn’t 37 a bit old for anyone to pass the standards? (I’m not being snarky.. just trying to look at common sense/a body’s aging process?)
I give her kudos for even trying at 37 years old...
That alone is a red flag...even men at 37 are past their prime unless they have a seriously dedicated to fitness...even then...I have to wonder if they could make it...
Symbolism over substance...
We do now. 8<(
THAT is the White House goal, after all. Not winning wars. The USAF is the world’s largest purchaser of “green fuels” ...All that money goes to democrat donors and democrat interests (including demo and RINO congress types).
At 37 getting through anything like Ranger school is an accomplishment for any one....Col. Kurtz said at 35 “These kids look at me like some kind of washed up old man.”
Ain’t Affirmative Action wonderful?
Pray America is waking
People magazine, of all media outlets, exposed what was going on after the instructors at Benning started talking.
Yeah, for about an hour, not day in day out month after month......
Will she have a General walking her through the last few weeks like the last two did?
37??? She’ll be getting her retirement pension soon. This program for training women Rangers and Navy Seals is a waste of money by the DOD equaling Obama’s disastrous $500,000 for training FIVE Syrian rebel soldiers.
The point is to further degrade the masculinity, courage, and war fighting ability of our finest.
It's not really very complicated.
Is it cost efficient to put anyone over 30 (or so) through Ranger School?
Getting her ticket punched so she can make Lt. Colonel, that’s all.
I’m 65 and still think I could make the swimming parts of the course. But for the others, I’d flunk out fast.
Meanwhile, some infantry squad leader who could use these skills to improve the survivability of his squad was not given a slot at Ranger School because they didnt have enough.
