The Episcopal Church drops below two million mark on PB Jefferts Schori's watch

When the 2014 stats came out last week, it was no surprise that The Episcopal Church had again lost membership across the board. However, the newest released figures show that there is a dip in most church growth indicators -- total membership, ASA, congregations, baptisms, communicants, faith formation pupils, confirmations, and receptions from other Christian denominations. There is a slight uptick in marriages and an increase in funerals.

For the first time in 75 years, The Episcopal Church's total membership dipped below the two million member mark. TEC's just-released official 2014 stats show worldwide church membership standing at 1,956,042. The last time Episcopal Church membership was below two million was in 1939 when there were 1,996,434 Episcopalians.

Of course. Any ideology that is contrary to human nature and doesn't believe in God is self limiting.

Part of the price of being stylish and embracing trendy crap such as queer marriage.

I am a Roman Catholic and in my parish the funerals have far outnumbered both baptisms & weddings; I noticed this trend in 2003.

There is a slight uptick in marriages

That'll stop as soon as gay marriage becomes old news.

Most if these “churches” are just democrat party meeting with carry in dinners.

Just write Ichabod on the door and be done with it.

The Episcopal church has been taken over by sexual deviants and eco fascists. And since most of those two types tend to be atheists, there is no place for the church to go but down.

I used to be an Episcopalian. But these days, they are just a place for Godless liberals to socialize on Sunday mornings before the football games start.

I thought “inclusiveness” was going to fill the churches.

I still miss the “smells and bells”. I miss much about the old church. Oh well, it’s not in my power to set it right.

For the few conservatives who have stayed, their motto is “This is my church; fu*k the home office”.

Or as Tucker Carlson described himself (and me by the way), a “self-loathing Episcopalian.”

And, with the Roman Catholic Church soon allowing the divorced, oops, I mean those with newly annulled marriages, to remarry and receive Communion, much of the recruited membership of recent years will disappear.

Only God knows what the Episcopal Church will do to be more “liberal” than the RC Church now. I don’t see them going to Satanic rites immediately. Maybe some intermediate form of Gaia worship?

The article omits mention what is the WORST statistic of all for TEC..the average age of parishioners..in many smaller parishes...the actuarial tables mean their demise is inevitable. This is the real death spiral

“I am a Roman Catholic and in my parish the funerals have far outnumbered both baptisms & weddings; I noticed this trend in 2003.”

What you are witnessing is the “elderly leaving the Catholic Church without any backfill”

But . . . but . . . libs always tell us that the churches must be “relevant” by supporting abortion and gay marriage, and that this will make the churches attractive to young people. What it really tells young people is that there is no need for a church if the church simply apes secular trends and fashions.
