Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is going after an influential U.S. Islamic group, arguing it violated the federal tax code after its executive director recently called on Carson to withdraw from the race following his controversial remarks about Muslims.
The retired neurosurgeon started a petition on Thursday asking supporters to encourage the Internal Revenue Service to take away the Council on Islamic-American Relations tax exempt status.

Good, but won’t happen under 0. He has it persecuting normal American groups.
Advocating the use of the IRS to target groups is a good idea???
Correct, this is stupid x10. Sounds like a Bush plan.
Use the IRS hired gun tax collectors to target specific groups? What happens when ya get a leader in like Obama or Bush who use it as their own private financial hired goons.
We need to ditch the IRS and go with a simplified reduced tax system. Carson is FOS here.
Do this across the board and we can make America great again.
Once again, Carson is FOS with this idea.
Silly. The IRS only targets pro-American groups.
Sheesh.
(Not a joke; by the way.)
He’s absolutely correct
Carson is absolutely wrong here. The IRS needs to be disbanded and put to rest, not given more power.
“IRS, Justice... should target all anti-American groups”
As long as the IRS and Justice department actually ARE anti-American groups, not gonna happen.
“Advocating the use of the IRS to target groups is a good idea???”
To eliminate their tax-except status because as a supposed non-profit group, they are not supposed to be involved in politics. Trying to get Dr. Carson out of the race violated that.
He’s not advocating giving the IRS any more power. Just to take away the group’s tax-except status.
I thought I was the only one who posted without reading the article, but it’s pretty rampant on this one!
Hamas/Cair clearly violated a law or regulations under which tea arty types and Zionist organizations were clearly harassed. The IRS should be pressured to do something honest, lawful and fair for once. Also, Nihad Awad, the head of Hamas/Cair said he wanted the Koran to supplant the U.S. Constitution. Another reason to have something done to such a subversive organization.
Carson has it wrong. The IRS needs to be either completely eliminated significantly downsized.
We don't need multiple duplicate agencies. We have very capable government agencies now who already perform investigations into financial violations. No one needs the IRS to target individuals or groups. That's what is going on now and we all know who ever is in power is going to use it for their own hired muscle to enforce their own political agendas for anyone who happens to pay taxes.
We've been though this not only with Obama but many other administrations. This is not complex folks.
It is the IRS that determines tax-exempt status.
Flood the country with very questionable foreigners after being brutally attacked on our own soil? Then the same government responsible tells us we must investigate and spy on them, which suddenly includes spying on, hacking and monitoring all Americans?
I don't think so Cotton.
I agree with everything you’ve said. But this very small part of what Carson is doing is about putting the IRS on the spot. It targeted conservative groups, illegally without cause. So what will it do now when there is very real cause?
We aren’t discussing the same thing at this moment, but we don’t disagree. I escaped Mexifornia so know exactly how an invasion ruins a place. We need to exclude ALL foreigners until Americans are back to work and nobody is asked to press 1 for English!
On the IRS, it's become flat out scary. During IRS/Learner hearings, their display of arrogance and dishonesty made most recoil in disgust. It was an epic wake-up call IMO. Take care.
