"Matt Bruenig is researcher of poverty and welfare systems at the think tank Demos."
By now, it is well established that capitalism is fundamentally built upon threats of force. As libertarian philosophers Robert Nozick and Matt Zwolinski have explained, the only way to turn unowned natural resources (such as land, minerals and other goods) into privately owned property is by violently preventing all others from using them. This one-sided exclusion destroys freedom of movement and cuts many people off from the things that they need to survive.

I’ve jumped too soon on posts me-self, in the past.
Well done!
My biggest problem is the poster who thinks I must be talking to them when I’m responding to the first post.
It’s almost always a response to the premise of the article.
I’m sure I’ve taken the first poster to task unreasonably too though.
No there’s not.
Ooops. Another error on my part.
I am too old to be immature. I always try to do the right thing...eventually.;-)
Without it, they quickly run out of things to redistribute.
In the authors world, this applies to everyone but him and his class of individual. He is intelligentsia and therefore paid by the state.
My bet he was fired for something lim]ke incompetence and this is his way of getting some measure of revenge against those that in hi eyes destroyed him.
Capitalism is the only moral economic system.Capitalism is the economic system based on the recognition of individual rights including property rights in which all property is privately owned. In a free society in which individual rights are respected, the initiation of force and threats of force is prohibited except in self defense.
Wealth is a real good, necessary for living the good life, and private property along with profits are the means and motive of production in a free society under capitalism, which is necessary for the creation of wealth.
Private property is only for those who are a little more then equal, otherwise you are the property. Any non capital based economic/political system is by definition a slavist state, as is anarchy. How does it feel to know the more then equals have re-enslaved you and are working on ways of further making you owned. We have few years to turn this puppy around. This moron got his econ degree from a box of cracker jacks.
But but but it could work if you fully implement the progressive manifesto. If you watch the vid of George Bernard shaw, you find the progressive answer. every 3 years you have to justify your worth to a government panel and those who are net takes are expired in a gas chamber. And no one would ever die of old age. How could that ever possible go wrong, oh wait that’s where Hitler got the idea, never mind move along nothing to see here.
By now, it is well established that socialism is fundamentally built upon threats of force. Actually its government in any form that is built on the threat of force. The question for us sheeple is how much force are you willing to put up with. Some force is ok, what were dealing with now is not. What the dem’s are trying to hoist on us should get them hung.
Unfortunately, there are quite a few jerks like this spreading lies and influencing some poorly educated losers.
Does this guy tell how all of this can paid for? Who pays for the Universal Income.
Sounds like another spin on Socialism. The concept of which goes back a long long time. Jonathan Swift who wrote “Gulliver’s Travels”, was advocating this even then.
Bigger is better. :)
Used to be called ‘BIG’, Basic Income Guarantee. Do they think I would continue to work or take risks if I were guaranteed money for nothing?
Capitalism is such a Communist term.
It is sad that this article was written at all and it is because they know there is an audience for this garbage.
With everything that is happening in this country...I think a reset is the only thing that is going to stop the decline.
I barely recognize my country nowadays.
He starts with a lie, just like any good Prog.
