Four people were killed and 52 wounded during shootings across Chicago over the weekend. After multiple weekends in a row of increased violence in the city, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is urging a fresh and more proactive approach to gun control.

At least 2,300 people have been shot in Chicago this year alone, according to the Chicago Tribune. According to their analysis, that's roughly 400 more incidents than during the same period in 2014.

You would think that after being shot once the first weekend they would have stayed off the streets the second weekend.
What is the matter with Chicago? Can’t they pass more gun laws to prevent this sort of shootings?

The headline literally says that 50 people were shot two weekends in a row - and the construction means the SAME people were shot.
More Than 50 People Shot for the Second Weekend in a Row in Chicago should read "More Than 50 Shootings for the Second Weekend in a Row in Chicago".

I know it’s wrong, but that made me LOL.
The news I saw has the authorities now talking about “illegal weapons” as the problems instead of guns in general.
The police superintendent pointed out the difference between the average Chicago shooter and, say, a New York shooter. The New York shooter, he said, will shoot and abandon the gun. The Chicago shooter holds onto it because getting in trouble with his gang for losing the gun is worse to them than getting caught by the police. I guess his point was that if Chicago shooters would start abandoning their weapons, there would be few illegal weapons on the streets. (??)
Between 1882 and 1968 (86 years) the highest estimate is that 3446 blacks were lynched in the entire United States.
Meanwhile, during only these past 10 months in Chicago, approx. 2200 blacks were shot, out of 2300 total shootings — just within the Chicago City limits.
Note to self - don’t ever go to Chicago.
Interesting stats.
As horrible as lynchings were, they were rare compared to the ongoing violence seen in big city ghettoes.
