The stunning decision by House Speaker John Boehner to resign from office in October is a sign of not only his inability to lead a congressional party riven between its establishment and tea party wings, but also the toll fighting that fight has taken on him -- and the GOP more broadly.
Almost since the day he became speaker -- following the tea party-led takeover of Congress in the 2010 midterm elections -- Boehner had been caught betwixt and between. His roots were firmly in the establishment end of the party, having spent decades in Congress and moving up the leadership chain not once but twice.

He could sniff the Holy Clothes and lick where the Holy feet stepped.
Can't argue with that logic.

He’ll cry all the way to several cushy Board of Directors gigs, and/or $Million$ per year lobbying congress....unless Trump can break up some of that stuff. Probably not the BOD gigs. Maybe crimp the lobbying slightly.

I loved what Newt did as Speaker, up until he allowed his personal life to color the news (and the conservative agenda). Brilliant man who had plenty of passion for his role.
I am extremely disappointed in Boehner, but let’s keep it real - the GOP’s criticism of Clinton would have been pure hypocrisy had they defended Newt. I think many have forgotten that.

the headline is not correct
Boehner received a vote of no confidence by those walking the halls
the party in effect no longer backed his lack of leadership in really fighting the whitehouse

Since he's quitting Congress altogether, also, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there's a little personal scandal lurking around somewhere...waiting to leak out.

On Fox News, I saw Nobama praise Boehner. That right there, is reason enough to dump his sorry rear end. Good riddance to him.

He’s 65! That’s a normal retirement age. Only in congress does a career last until you’re 90.

“He quit to save his arse.”
Exactly. He quit out of not wanting to be thrown out.
The Republican Party would have been much better off had they shown the backbone to kick him out before he could quit. They could finally have shown the base they could do something.

if he wanted to quit in order to help the R party, ok by me

If that truly were the case, Bonehead would have left long ago, or at the very least....leave TODAY...not wait til end of October.
