Sen. Marco Rubio calls for a 'new American century' Presidential hopeful goes on 'Special Report' to discuss the Pope's views, GOP opponents and his record

Last night, Marco Rubio was interviewed on the Special Report with Bret Baier. Some of his comments were on the money, some leave me wondering, "Just who is this guy?" See the entire (short) interview at: http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/special-report-bret-baier/videos#p/86927/v/4501976564001

With the rumors of the GOP establishment lining up behind Rubio and his apparent views regarding citizenship for illegal aliens, I find myself having serious doubts about Senator Rubio. While he's extremely articulate and very much in command of facts, some of his comments during the interview last night leave me wondering.

Understanding that Rubio is a Catholic and that his faith may occasionally come into conflict with reality, I found his comments on the Popea bit confusing. He states that, as "...the vicar of Christ" the Pope's theological opinions are infallible. While I'm sure the Pope has spoken on theological issues, very few of those opinions have been given any press. Instead, the pope tends to address primarily economic and political issues, which are, in my opinion, reflective of an adherent of Liberation Theology at the least and Marxism at the most. Rubio went on to comment that, on issues of the economy, the Pope is "...a person with an opinion." When asked about the Pope's views on global warming, Rubio stated that Francis is merely encouraging us "...to be good stewards of the earth."

Baier went on to ask Rubio about the fact that so many Republican voters are "mad" at the GOP for violating so many promises made to the electorate. Rubio's response (in apparent defense of McConnell and Boehner)? "What we need is a Republican president" and he went on to suggest that there's only so much "the Party" can do with control of the House and Senate." Rubio went on to suggest that, without a veto-proof majority, the House and Senate can't do a thing to stop Obama.

To his credit, when responding to a question about Obama's performance and the debacle that has resulted from electing a first-term senator, Rubio stated that Obama has seven years' experience as president and he would have been a failure if he had been a CEO, governor or had served 40 years in the Senate and concluded that a president must focus on "Free Enterprise, Limited Government and Strong National Security."

I find myself wondering what he and the Republican "leadership" have done to further any of those three principles in the last seven years. It seems that the only core principles to which the GOPe adheres are those of fundraising, reelection and staunch opposition to principled constitutional conservatives.

Apparently Fla doesn’t support either bush or rubio...their support is going to Trump...

That says a lot when your own state won’t support you....

He’s a nasty little liar who talks a great talk but, come time to walk the walk, will be throwing stones and poisoned spikes in the way of the real walkers.

“Rubio is a statist and a judicial supremacist. If this is the best the conservatives can do - they should just go home. Here are his pathetic comments regarding the SCOTUS homosex marriage opinion: “While I disagree with this decision, we live in a republic and must abide by the law. As we look ahead, it must be a priority of the next president to nominate judges and justices committed to applying the Constitution as written and originally understood.” He actually wants us to agree with the fiction that SCOTUS can make law. Then he puts people onto the hand wringing train of waiting for the next SC nominees who will uphold the Constitution (which of course never happens - the preborn have been waiting for these justices for over 40 years now). The man is a fraud.”

I won’t. I will never vote to abandon the rule of law.

I’m done with the GOP if they get the amnesty candidate they’ve been paid for by The Cheap Labor Express.

We all liked the Rubio who bucked the party elites who supported Crist. Clearly he disappointed us when he became cozy with beltway GOP and put his name on COMPREHENSIVE immigration reform.

I see some of the old Rubio coming back, but he has a trust problem as evidence by your comment!!!

I clearly remember that Marco when running for the senate in Florida, said smilingly that he was raised Catholic, but was “now Baptist”, and that sometimes he is both!

The two are diametrically opposed. So, what did that tell me about Marco.

I thought at the time, this is one tricky youngster who is all things to all people, so long as the benefit goes to him. He was young and handsome and extremely articulate, totally charming, and the kid doesn’t know who he is, on the inside.

Now, I heard him say of the pope’s arrival that he himself is Catholic. Not Baptist.

This guy Rubio really ism is a political machine, the exact kind that Trump warns us of, capable of being subjected to forces of any kind. IF it’s beneficial to him.
